has finally unveiled her diffusion collection ‘Victoria’ by Victoria Beckham, and it is quite different from her usual collections to say the least. A cute collection of shorter, 1960s style shifts and mini dresses, this seems miles away from her usual collections in terms of sophistication. Whereas her Victoria Beckham line is full of cool and elegant looks, this is the fun and flirty side of Mrs Beckham. Think the younger sister of the mainline wearer and you might be getting somewhere.
This line is bright and colourful, and will retail much cheaper than the normal collection. The silhouettes are loose and flowing, non of the va-va-voom of her other collections. Instead you have a young range that will suit people who aspire to the kooky style of Alexa Chung or Kirsten Dunst. If the mainline collection has the feel of 1950s icons, then this collection has echoes of Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton in swinging sixties shifts. Sophisticated it is not, but cute? Oh yes, most definitely.
There are cats and clouds and crescent moons in this collection, which is said to have been inspired by comic book heroine Emily the Strange. I think Victoria has done a really good job of creating a collection of dresses for a younger audience, but I couldn’t see this collection on anyone over the age of 30. Unfortunately, Victoria herself as been seen out and about sporting the brown cat print dress from the collection. I think it’s a look that just jars on an ultra-sophisticated 37-year-old. It looks like she’s wearing a dress borrowed from one of her nieces. For once, I don’t think she is the best advert for her clothes.
My favourite dress of the collection is the black and white shift with the long sleeves, this has an element of sophistication to it and I really like the tiered effect skirt. But I think I will be giving the cats and clouds a miss…
