Thursday saw Eastcastle St, London transformed into Peacocksville as discerning fashionista’s descended on the Oui Rooms to check out the new Peacocks collections that will have us salivating come November and December. And there were so many fabulous looks to savour…as well as a few surprises.
The new Pearl Lowe collections have moved slightly away from her beloved 1940s, and are now embracing a glamorous Hollywood 1930s vibe. Champagne silk and lace, and black oriental style florals simply evoke the time of Kay Francis and Miriam Hopkins, whilst maintaining the amazing Peacocks price points. There were also fabulous 50s silhouette dresses that used the luxe fabrics of velour and lace, but with elements of stretch that make them perfect, yet again for curvy girls.
The Peacocks by Design and boutique ranges were also full of gems. I loved the jewel coloured, Halston style maxi dresses that will retail at just £40, these would be amazing for Christmas parties, and need no more accessorising than the thin gold belts that are included in the price. There are also heavily beaded pieces that could be vintage, tops, 1920s style dress, and little shifts, ensuring that whatever your style is, you will find your Christmas party showstopper. There are also a fantastic range of day dresses that are based on 1970s designs, featuring an amazing array of prints, long sheer sleeves and pleated skirts.
One of the big talking points were the dresses based on the Kate and Pippa wedding and bridesmaid dresses. The Kate dress has already been featured as an online exclusive, where it was a complete sell out, and will now be rolled out to selected stores. It is a prom style dress, and is also available in a beautiful midnight blue version. The Pippa bias cut dress has now been transformed into a hot pink evening dress, and will also be available in a burnished gold version. These are sure to be sell-outs when they debut later in the season. (February I think?)
The main Peacocks ranges are also looking good. Lots of 70s colours are still hot, teal and mustard still going strong, along with stripy prints. And of course, suede platforms in a myriad of colours, to give you the complete outfit.
