Glamorous Eyewear that helps to give sight – Toms launch at Selfridges

Fashion is often described as frothy. frivolous and fun, but sometimes it also shows its serious, caring side. A great example of this is Toms. The company behind the ‘One for One’ movement that has provided thousands of new pairs of shoes for children around the world, are now expanding their operations to provide further essential help for those in need. This time, CEO Brett Mycoskie, has focused on another key issue, that of sight.

Toms have launched a fabulous new collection of eyewear exclusively at Selfridges. This is a fashion forward collection that includes all the classic styles of sunglasses, wayfarers, aviators and stylish oversized designs. I particularly love the retro look of the tortoiseshell wayfarers. But these glasses do more than protect the eyes of the person wearing them, they help to give sight to a person in need. In the tradition of  ‘One for One’, each pair of glasses purchased will give sight to a person in need.

As Brett MyCoskie explains ‘In 2007 during my travels, I realised the One for One model could do more than give shoes – it could address other needs around the world. Sight is a fundamental need. The loss of sight has a dramatic impact on a person’s life – on his or her family and community. ‘

So this year, as you choose your Summer shades, check out the new Toms range. You will look great and will be helping someone else to simply look.

Aquatic Trends from My-Wardobe

Spring’s latest trend taps into our love of the deep blue sea by utilising a wonderful spectrum of aquatic shades. From the deepest of blues to the most shimmering sea greens, with a little bit of iridescent mother of pearl thrown in for good measure, these are the colours that bring out the inner mermaid in all girls.

My-Wardrobe showcases the aquatic trend to great effect in an array of exquisite items that shimmer and shine even when you are a million miles from the sea-shore. From the futuristic sequins of Malene Birger’s Amakaji maxi dress, the minimalist classic that is Tibi’s silk shift dress or the geometric waves that emblazoned Helmut Lang’s silk dress, you can satisfy your love of the aquatic in a myriad of styles, textures and lengths.

Even accessories have that aquatic edge. Rings are iridescent, clutch bags are turquoise and heels have a scaly theme. This is a trend that will take you right through to those sultry summer nights  spent sipping cocktails poolside whilst staring at the ocean.

Shoe classics your wardrobe needs

We always talk about the things that every woman should have in her wardrobe, the classic white shirt, skinny jeans, little black dress etc. But what should every woman have in her shoe wardrobe? If you think about it, one type of shoe definitely doesn’t fit all occasions, or all outfits. The right kind of shoe can make an outfit, whilst the wrong shoes can kill it stone dead.

I thought about this whilst I was browsing through one of my favourite shoe sites, Spartoo, looking for some summer sandals for my Easter break (hoping this glorious weather lasts just that bit longer…). Spartoo does have shoes for all occasions, here are some that caught my eye.

The loafer – for casual days and weekends

Loafers are the perfect shoes to wear at the weekend. Comfortable for wearing to give the shops a pounding, casual with jeans, these are the perfect shoes for days when you don’t need to try so hard. I love the glossy patent orange of the Meline Cori loafer, a gorgeous shade perfect for Spring.

The Flip -Flop –  for the beach and beyond

If you are choosing a pair of flip-flops, do you ever look further than Havaianas? The Queen of all flip-flops, these are practical, comfortable and cool. I bought my first pair in Majorca in 2006 and never looked back.

Mary Janes – a smart and stylish work shoe

Your feet need to show they mean business when they enter the workplace. I really like these patent Mary Jane styled shoes by Belmondo that were apparently inspired by an Argentinian tango shoe. The heel is not too high and the red soles will have your workmates whispering ‘are they Lou…?’

Nude heels – for those Middleton moments

Going to a wedding, day at the races, summer christening? The nude heel was invented for these sorts of events, and their popularity has soared since they were shown by patronage by Her Royal Highness, Duchess Kate.

The showstopper – for those special evening occasions

Every girl needs a special pair of shoes in her wardrobe, the sort of shoes that just looking at can make you smile. These may be shoes you have lusted over forever, saved up for months to buy. I’m currently lusting over the Laina’s from House of Harlow 1960 – pure shoe porn!
