X Factor Fash Off – Week 3 – A very mixed bag

October 22nd, 2012

Week three of the X Factor live shows, and it was safe to say it was not a vintage week in terms of fashion or music. With only Ella, James and District 3 impressing during the live show, and with dubious outfits from both Tulisa and Nicole, it was again left to Ella Henderson to add some style and class to the proceedings. Here are my opinions on the clothes on show this week, which again I judge to be honours even.

Nicole started the weekend well with a mouth-watering raspberry skater dress from Alexander McQueen. The colour was just amazing on her, and I  liked that the bodice and top was very modest in comparison to the short and flirty skirt. The outfit was perfectly accessorised with 1980s style gold jewellery including a Cleopatra effect collar. If the hair was a little Siamese dancer, that could be forgiven as this was an overall hit for me.

But Tulisa had a shocker. Wearing custom-made Ricci Burns, the comments on Twitter ranged from ‘Moulin Rouge reject’,  to those saying she looked like she’d had a supermarket sweep through Ann Summers. I didn’t feel love for this at all. A saloon girl in the Wild West was really missing her bustier, whilst the satin skirt was just too tight. On the plus side, her hair and make-up were flawless, showing what a beautiful woman she is, whilst the shoes, which I believe were Chanel, were fabulous.

For the second week running, my favourite X Factor outfit was worn by Ella Henderson. Her sparkly sequined number was customised Lipsy, but I have found a similar design in French Connection at the moment.

The second set of live shows were a role reversal for Tulisa and Nicole. Nicole was a directional disaster wearing an Alpana & Neeraj dress with Topshop Unique shoes and Crow’s Nest Jewels. I hated this dress, which for some reason reminded me of Cheryl Cole and her hubcap number. Nicole is far more sophisticated than this dress suggests, maybe the style would be more suited to an experimental twenty-something like Jade Ellis, than the 30 something Nicole.

But I actually loved Tulisa’s metallic prom queen look from the black strapless Milly by Michelle Smith frock to the gold waist belt and mesh heels. The shimmer effect of this dress was very eye-catching and I loved the gold accents on the belt. The cage shoes were the one jarring element – I would’ve liked something slightly more girlie rather than trying to toughen up such a feminine look.

And finally onto Jade Ellis. Jade has been quietly making fashion waves each week with a series of eye-catching outfits, and this week she showed that an online bargain can look seriously fabulous. Her cute leopard print skirt was from Inlovewithfashion and costs a total steal of just £10. This is the sort of perfect piece that can be dressed up and down, and is the one item I would suggest you grab before it disappears!

I don’t like any of Nicole’s or Tulisa’s outfits this time (too try hard for me), but I love your interpretation Green corset, very sexy and not forgetting the Giselle Black Suedette and also the Daniels Platform Court Shoes are brilliant! WOW!.

Preferred Nicole on Saturday, hate them both on Sunday tbh. Don’t think they have real style, and probably need to sack the stylists. But Ella absolutely rocks.
