My LPSFW outfit + Win! with Clothing at Tesco.

February 18th, 2013

Last week I was invited to attend London Plus size Fashion Weekend as a guest of Tesco. Of course I said ‘Yes!’ in my loudest voice, and then proceeded to squeal for a good many minutes when they said I would be able to choose an outfit from the Clothing at Tesco site to wear on the day. As a fan of F&F, this was a fantastic opportunity to test drive pieces from the range, although I knew just settling on one outfit wouldn’t be easy.

I knew I wanted to choose a dress, and there were a few that caught the eye, including a fabulous silk feel shirt dress in a vibrant orange shade that I fell in love with. But, in the end, there was only one dress that I could choose. This was the F&F Signature Floral Peplum Dress. This was a dress that clicked so many boxes for me. It had sleeves, it was stretchy, and it was bright and colourful. I loved the digital style floral print that reminded me of a Mary Katrantzou design, and the fact that the peplum wasn’t a full skirted one to add inches, but was a slight, subtle frill on the side of the dress.

I teamed the jacket with a simple navy blazer, that I originally thought was black. It was a perfect match, making this a rather happy accident. This blazer is so versatile, looking as good with jeans as it does over a dress, and yet costs just £16, making it a total bargain. I also added a pair of faux suede shoe boots that looked stylish but were also easy to walk in, a good thing when the nearest station was almost half a mile away.

I absolutely loved my outfit, the dress, in particular, received lots of positive comments and compliments, not the least of which was a compliment from designer and all round girl crush Anna Scholz, who told me she loved my dress and asked where it was from. With the whole outfit costing less than £60 I think this is real proof that you don’t have to spend a fortune to make an impact.

I love that dress! Huge fan of Tesco clothing, especially their cashmere and Limited Edition range. My style icon is Olivia Palermo. Although she does invest in high end brands, I love that she willingly mixes it with High Street and she always does it so well. The fact that she wears items more than once makes her my style icon even more, as for me, key pieces should be versatile enough to be worn over and over again. She inspires me every time I see her.

  2. Great outfit Fashion-Mommy 🙂

I like Daisy Lowe for her rocky edginess. She’s a little curvier than the normal models, which really adds to her unique look.

  3. As GlamRosie says it simply has to Olivia Palermo, classic with a modern edge.

  4. Gwen steffani for me!
    Great dress by the way!

  5. Karen (@Swimstar2000) says:

My fashion icon has to be Marilyn Monroe, she was so glam and had curves in all the right places.

  6. Katy says:

Zooey Deschanel! i think she’s so beautiful.

  7. You look great Emma – love that dress! I don’t really have a style icon as such but I do love getting style inspiration from other bloggers, especially Alexandra from Lovely Pepa & Alex from The Frugality who both manage to look so effortlessly stylish. Great giveaway! Avril x

  8. Dawn Hills says:

ultimate style icon would be my mum. Sadly shes no longer with us but was always smart and well turned out. As a child of the 60’s I love that era and vintage/retro clothes are really getting back in fashion as are accessories. Tesco is fantastic value for money and doesnt make me feel guilty for treating myself. Well done !!

  9. Great outfit Emma. I always like Dannii Minogue’s look; particularly how she rocked the bob hairstyle a few years ago. From the Hollywood icons, it would have to be Audrey Hepbrun. But for current style, I’m like everyone else … for me, it’s also Olivia Palermo!

  10. Meganh says:

My favourite icons are people who aren’t afraid to be really ‘out there’ – like Rihanna and Paloma Faith.

Obviously not for day-to-day wear but they have fun with it and don’t take fashion too seriously.

Victoria Beckham looks great but plays it very safe. I’d love to see her in printed skinny trousers or a neon leather skirt, she definitely has the figure to pull most things off.

  11. Lula Belle says:

You look lovely! Did you enjoy the day? Can’t wait to catch up and hear all about it.

My style icon is Marilyn, she knew how to wear clothes that fitted and hung to every curve. She looked fab in dresses or trousers. I love the sexy v classic look she eluded.

  12. Anthea Wilson says:

Love the Tesco F&F outfit. You look fab in it. My style icon would be Kate Middleton. She always looks effortlessly stylish in whatever she wears xxx

  13. Michelle says:

I love Louise Redknap’s, she’s a working mum who alway’s looks fab making it not too difficult to steal her style!! What’s not to love :0)

  14. Tracey says:

I love clothing by tesco, not only for me but for my children too! The range is great for smart daywear to casual lounging.

  15. hippychick says:

Kelly Osbourne – I love how she’s taken some really traditional styles and shapes and made them her own. And she has a blatant disregard for her critics, which will always be a plus point for me!

  16. Emily McMillan says:

Wow love that dress on you, looks gorgeous! My style icon is Lauren Laverne… although I don’t have nearly the same figure as her I still love her clothes. She always looks stylish and sophisticated but with a bit of a quirky edge. Doing us mums proud I think! x

  17. Dawn Broadhurst says:

I cannot seem to choose one icon as I like many different styles but if I had to choose …. Very hard I suppose it would be alexa Chung.

  18. hazel says:

you look super in the dress Emma. Price is excellent too definatly value for money.

  19. Raven says:

I think my perfect style icon would have to be a mix of Briggitte Bardot and Grace Kelly 🙂

I love that dress as well!

  20. Sunny says:

Loving your outfit and loving the F&F collection this season.

It’s very hard to pick just one ultimate style icon as I love mixing and matching styles & taking inspiration from a number of people. But if I had to pick one I would say Fearne Cotton. Now I know she’s like marmite but I can’t fault her style over the past few years.

Boho, gothic, rock chick, quirky cool- whatever the look she can pull it off. Even during her pregnancy she has remained stylish. In the words of Keith Lemon, “Fearne Cotton, I think your style is bang tidy!”

  21. Elizabeth says:

Style icon……well, I never would have thought it but I have several times bought the same top as Alex Jones wears on the One Show!! There she is just advertising something from a current range and she makes me want it!!

  22. Emily Jayne says:

Fabulous outfit and you look gorgeous!

My style icon at the moment is Zooey Deschanel – every time I watch New Girl I want to steal her wardrobe!

  23. Kirsten Murphy says:

my style icons are two very different Kellys, Kelly Osborne and Kelly Brook. Both have quite distinctive styles that work regardless of their size and both absolutely exude confidence which is irresistible.
    Kirsten x

  24. Shelley Jessup says:

Holly Willoughby is my style icon as she always wears clothes that are suitable for me to wear & her style is simple but fenimine & elegant. I want to be stylish whilst doing my weekly shop at Tesco but I don’t want to try & pull off a ‘popstar’ look that would get me stares & ‘what on earth is she wearing’ comments from other shoppers! That is where Holly’s style is suitable for day to day wear.

  25. Emma says:

Mine would be Kathrine Middleton I think as our next queen she’s shoes that she can where down clothes in jeans etc and stunning ball gowns, she’s a natural beauty no fuss,I think as a role model and a style icon and her down to earth nature she’s the perfect style icon and one of the most worldwide I think x

  26. Madeline Jennings says:

Well I have TWO style icons. Number one being……Helen Mirren, she might be a wee bit older than most of the gals, who read this blog even, but she can certainly give ALL GIRLS AND LADIES some pretty classy advice I would think.
She never ceases to AMAZE me, how she seems to change her hair, and it ALWAYS looks GREAT, and shes not afraid to try lots of designs and she just radiates vitality and style. My number 2 has to be Helena Bonham Carter, who is SO CLASSICALLY British, but has this MAD GOTHIC VICTORIAN style, which WORKS…………Certainly two femmes with individual attitude…:) 🙂

  27. Angie Franklin says:

I love that dress. I found a dress like that at Berlington Coat Factory. They had some really amazing outfits and I LOVE their prices. I usually save far more than I spend on any shopping trip there, though I often buy way more than I should.
