Duchess Kate – The recycling continues.

March 18th, 2013

As her pregnancy continues, Kate Middleton shows why she is well deserving of the title ‘The Duchess of Thrift’ as she continues to recycle and revamp existing pieces from her wardrobe for public occasions and private events. This weekend alone, Kate has shown off two different coats that she has altered in some way in order to accommodate her very neat, but ever-growing baby bump.

On Friday, Kate headed to the races at Cheltenham in a camel coat from Joseph. This coat is a real wardrobe favourite of Kate’s, she has been wearing it for at least 8 years, and the coat was daringly short for the pregnant Duchess. It had also, quite obviously, had the buttons moved to make it a larger size, a point picked up on by most of the press. I think it makes perfect sense to adapt clothes you love and feel comfortable in during pregnancy, after all, they can always be altered again once baby is born.

Kate accessorised with brown, a classic choice to team with beige and camel shades.  I think the Duchess looks really good at the moment. Pregnancy, now that initial, rather horrendous period is over, actually seems to suit her, and she looks glowing and healthy. Some websites have picked fault over this outfit, notably the brown tights, but I love that Kate has thought outside the box and worn something over than black.

St Patrick’s Day Deja Vu

At the ceremony of distributing Shamrocks to the Irish Guards on St Patrick’s Day, guests could be forgiven for having a touch of Deja Vu. For Kate was wearing exactly the same Emilia Wickstead coat that she had worn for the same ceremony in 2012. True, she had removed the pencil thin belt, true, she had also changed the hat. But the coat was most definitely the same one, and it looked stunning!

Emerald green is a big story in colour this year, the pantone colour for 2013, and of course, on St Patrick’s Day there can only be one colour. And with Vivienne Westwood saying Kate doesn’t recycle enough, perhaps this was a message to that designer, and every other who has said the Duchess is too extravagant.
