Looking towards Spring and Summer with Bonmarche

It has been the coldest of weeks, but as we celebrate Valentine’s Day, Spring is definitely in the air. Today we have a warmer feel, blue skies, and I’ve put the jeans away and opted for a skirt again. I love the coming of Spring and the effect it has on our wardrobes, with lighter colours and fabrics taking the place of chunky knits and wall to wall jeans and heavy coats. But before we get to the beautiful days, we have a transitional time when the days can still pack a punch when it comes to chills.

Bonmarche have started to introduce Spring looks to their collections, and they have some great pieces that can be classed as transitional. By this I mean you can wear them now in one style, and then wear them again when the weather is warmer by changing the styling and the accessories.

Here are some of my key picks from their new collection, and ways to wear them now and later.

The Tea Dress

This stunning pink dress is an absolute fave of mine. You could wear this now with boots and a chunky knit 1940s Land Girls style (or like The Edge of Love style – love that film and its fashion). Then, as it warms up, ditch the cardi and add a kitten heel.

The Embroidered Quilted Jacket

This jacket has Chanel written all over it. The style could look super chic now worn French style over a black polo neck and skinny jeans. (I’m thinking Ines De La Fressange as inspiration). Come Summer, maybe take inspiration from Karl Lagerfeld. In recent campaigns he subverted the image of the jacket and pearls style by teaming it with shorts and hot pants on model Alice Dellal.

The Signature Lace Shift Dress

Heading to a Spring Wedding? This dress would be great. Team it with a tuxedo style jacket now, or maybe a velvet smoking jacket for a more evening friendly look. Then, in Summer, you can wear it with bare arms and a bit of a tan.

Paisley Print Blouse

This blouse is so multi functional. You can enjoy wearing it now with a thick Arran cardigan worn over it, but this will also be brilliant as a holiday piece. The ethnic print gives it a Marrakesh, Talitha Getty hippy feel. Layer it with love beads, add a thong sandal and a pair of denim cut offs and you are ready for sightseeing in the sun.

  1. I love the tea dress. It’s great to see so many dresses with sleeves reappearing. I really must make more of an effort and stop wearing leggings all the time – but it’s soooo cold!

  2. I really love this post, especially as it’s starting to be a lot brighter now! Hopefully Winter is well and truly on it’s way out. Love finding colourful clothing to wear, so some great inspiration from this post!

  3. I really like the look of the blue dress, and it’s the sort of dress my wife wears (and she doesn’t wear them often), so I’m gonna have to show it to her.

  4. I am so excited to go shopping for spring and summer clothes and be out of my maternity wardrobe.
