My Summer Wardrobe – A Bumper Outfit Of The Day Post

Due to a family holiday in Cyprus which also incorporated my brother’s wedding, I am really late with my outfit of the day post for June. It really has been an incredibly busy time, and June was the oddest of months, with both my birthday and Father’s Day falling in the month, as well as some great blogging events and family gatherings. Clearly it was a month when my wardrobe was going to be earning its keep.

The weather was practically schizophrenic, one moment the sun was so hot the only thing to do was immerse yourself in a pool (of the paddling variety in my case), the next there was rain and temperatures better suited to late October rather than the supposedly flaming June. This meant that the jeans could not be abandoned just yet, and some days still required sleeves of the longer variety.

There were some new purchases, specifically of the holiday variety, and there were also some great charity shop finds, but June was very much a month when old favourites showed their faces again, as I tried to avoid washing and wearing new pieces that I wanted to take on holiday. Where I can, I link to any pieces currently in stores, but this has proved to be more difficult in this post.

Art Deco Inspired Jewels From Rock My Vintage

Vintage has become a big news story in fashion in recent years, and Rock My Vintage is one of its greatest exponents/ Based in Birmingham’s Custard Factory, the brand stocks a range of items under the vintage umbrella, from true pieces from the past, to faithful reproductions, vintage inspired pieces, and beautiful accessories and jewellery that have that feel of being found in granny’s jewellery box.

For me, when it comes to jewellery, I love the style, shape and colours that are linked to the Art Deco era, which had its heyday in the 1920s. Art Deco was exciting, flamboyant, geometric and super stylish, but due to a resurgence that began in the 1960s and never really ended, true Art Deco pieces are becoming harder to source, not to mention, very, very expensive.

The Green Art Deco necklace and matching drop earrings from Lovett and Co are just one of the jazz age styled items stocked at Rock My Vintage. (You can view their full range here). The necklace is a beautifully delicate piece with diamante stones that reflect so prettily, framing green opal stones that catch the light perfectly. The chain is antique plated brass that is 40cm in length, but can be extended a further 6cm through the adjuster.

These are really versatile pieces of jewellery, that can be worn as a matching set, or styled separately. They can be worn with really dressy outfits, or just to add a touch of retro style or bling to a simple daytime outfit. I love the fact that the pieces are really well made, but are also light and delicate – this made them perfect to pack in a suitcase to take to my brother’s recent wedding in Cyprus. I wore the earrings with my wedding outfit, and. as you can see, they were a perfect match, with the drop being so elegant.

I’ve worn the necklace on a different night out, and, it sits so nicely just below the nape of the neck. The opals look great with a wide range of colours.

Rock My Vintage is definitely worth checking out if you like jewellery of the vintage kind, it has so many lovely pieces that you will be able to wear for years and years.

5 Fashion accessories to invest in for great postpartum style

There’s no question about it. A woman’s body goes through many changes during and after pregnancy. Some of the changes may be permanent. For example, some women are never able to back to their previous foot size before they get pregnant. Also, while there are products that can help make stretch marks look lighter, these battle scars will always be there as a reminder of what a woman had to go through to bring forth a human being into the world.

But just because a woman’s body has changed does not mean that they should stop being fashionable. While it is tempting to be in t-shirts and sweats every day, there are small fashion items they can add to their usual getup to make them look more appealing. Here are some of the accessories they can add to their shopping list to make them look and feel good.

  1. Nursing tops – especially for moms who are breastfeeding their children, nursing tops are a must. These make so much more convenient to feed their kids anywhere they are instead of looking for breastfeeding areas or just a secluded area for a little privacy. IN the past, nursing tops were quite basic in their design and can be quite expensive. But now, there are stores that sell them for an affordable price and they also offer wide of range of stylish designs that moms can choose from.

  1. Stylish flats – moms may need to lay off wearing heels for a little more after they give birth, especially if they are carrying their children a lot of time. They can invest in a good pair of flay shoes or even boots. Mothers just need to make sure that comfort should be their number one priority instead of style. They also need to make sure that they are getting the right size as some women tend to go back to their original shoe size after giving birth.

  1. Jewellery – it might not be something necessary, but mothers also need to pamper themselves once in awhile. Wearing a nice pair of earrings can bring joy to some women. Some mothers also invest in teething necklaces that are safe for children. There are many types that are available in the market, in different color and styles to they will have plenty to choose from.

  1. Scarf – another thing that may not be necessary but it can create a big difference to one’s outfit. It can bring a pop of color to an otherwise monochromatic outfit. It can even function as a nursing cover if a mother does not want to wear a nursing top anymore.

  1. Girdle – giving birth takes its toll on a woman’s body. Whether they went through a normal delivery or C-section, a woman’s tummy becomes sensitive after birth. That’s why it’s good to invest in a girdle as it provides not only comfort but support for the sensitive area as well. There are so many girdles on the market, so to help new mothers, here’s a list of the top girdles after pregnancy or C-section to help them make their choice.
