A Guide To Christmas Occasion Dressing

Christmas calls for the best your wardrobe has to offer. If you’re lucky, you will get to go to lots of different events and occasions that call for many different styles of dress. For some, this can be a minefield – what do you wear?

Luckily, there are some fail safe pieces that always work this time of year, classic fabrics, prints and styles that you will be able to call on this Christmas, and pretty much every Christmas after that. These are pieces that I have in my wardrobe, not strictly fashion, but wearable, and workable for a whole host of Christmas occasions.

A Red Dress

I have a whole host of red dresses that I wear over the Christmas period. Red is, of course, synonymous with Christmas, from Santa’s suit, to Rudolph’s nose, to the berries on the holly wreaths that we hang on our doors. A red dress is a great choice for Christmas Day, to wear if you are going to a panto, and also for a family Christmas meal. I wore this dress last year for a trip to the theatre, and will be pulling it out the wardrobe again soon.

Something Christmas Themed

Obviously, Christmas jumper day calls for a Christmas themed top or sweater, but your Christmas themed clothing doesn’t have to just be a jumper. Contrado is a fashion company that focuses on allowing you to create your own clothes by using your own prints or photographs to create designs that can then be printed on anything from a dress or a top to a skirt or a bag.

As a lover of all things Christmas I decided to design my own skirt using photographs from Christmas past. The skirt could come in two lengths, so I chose the longer skater length rather than a mini skirt, and you can also chose whether you want your images in colour, black and white or, as I chose, sepia. Photographs can be rotated and cropped, they can be arranged in a variety of ways, and you can have a follow on pattern, or different images on the front and back.

The finished product only takes a few days before it is with you and ready to wear, and I think it is the perfect item for a trip to a Christmas Market, a Boxing Day turkey buffet, or a shopping trip before Christmas – it will certainly get you in the Christmas spirit.

Velvet

For me, velvet is the fabric for Christmas. I know that it is a marmite choice, some people just hating the feel of it, but velvet speaks of warmth and luxury, and yes, Christmas. You could chose a velvet accessory if you are not so happy to go all out velvet or just go for it. Perfect for any Christmas evening occasion.

Winter Wardrobe Essentials

As we move into Winter, it is time to update our wardrobes accordingly. The good news is that we don’t have to buy reams and reams of new clothes, we just need to make a few savvy purchases that can be used in a versatile manner to ensure that our wardrobes stay fresh while we stay warm.

Here are my key pieces that will keep you warm and gorgeous this Winter.

A Blanket Scarf

A blanket scarf is an item I discovered last Winter, a real versatile piece that you will wear loads. Why? Well on milder days the scarf can be worn rather than a coat, layered over a cosy jumper for just the right amount of coverage. This is a great look if you are shopping in heated shopping centres where you melt in your winter coat. But, come the big freeze, you can actually layer this over your coat, it is so much warmer than your traditional scarves. Good places to find blanket scarves this year include Joules and Dorothy Perkins.

A Chunky Knit

Chunky knit jumpers have become one of the most versatile pieces you can have in your wardrobe. The simplest way to wear it has to be the jeans, jumper and boots combination, but chunky knit can also be worn over tea dresses to extend their life from Spring.Summer to Autumn/Winter wear. Another gorgeous way to wear your chunky knit is over a tulle skirt, a look which combines a mixture of fabrics and styles to devastating effect. Look to Boden for elegant knitwear.

Knitted Gloves

I love leather gloves, but here’s the thing, they look great, but they are not warm. For warmth you need to opt for a knitted version instead. M&S have a great range of soft knit gloves in a range of colours for less than £10. Definitely worth a look.

Christmas Gift Idea: Beauty Feet – Review and Giveaway

We spend a lot of time on our feet, but they are one of the parts of the body that is most neglected when it comes to giving ourselves a little TLC. Wearing uncomfortable shoes, walking around in bare feet, it has to be said that our feet are not always treated the best and this can lead to hard, dry and rough skin, particularly on the heels.

The SockShop have come up with a rather brilliant, pain free solution in the form of its Beauty Feet socks. These are socks that have a heel pad, that is also an active nourishing pad, containing a patented nourishing formula, a closely guarded Chinese Herbal recipe and Nano-silver. They say:-

Making your feet beautiful is now as easy as pulling on a pair of socks!

The great thing about these socks is that they are very wearable and perfect for everyday wear. They come in classic black which makes them a great work wear, trouser sock. They are also not too thick, so they can be worn with your smartest heeled boots as well as with Uggs and Wellies when it gets very cold.

In terms of effectiveness, 92% of people saw a marked improvement in the appearance of their feet. It is best to give the socks between 7-14 days to completely revive your heels.  The socks work best when you wear them for at least 8 hours a day and are machine washable and remain effective for at least 300 washes.

Beauty Feet would make a great stocking filler, but if you want to try them before Christmas, you can enter the competition below to win.
