Bad Apple Hair Event at Topshop Birmingham

A couple of weeks ago I attended a glamorous evening of hair and fashion at Birmingham’s Topshop store in the Bullring. The event was to celebrate the launch of the Bad Apple Hair salon based in the store, and to get a chance to look at some of the latest arrivals in fashion, as chosen by the girls of the personal shopping team. It was a fun event that certainly brought colour and cheer to what was already a very grim January.

Topshop launched their personal shopping service last Summer, with the idea being that you could use it to help with a wardrobe update, to look for something specific for a special occasion, or even get together with a group of friends for a girly afternoon of fashion. The girls of the fashion department had put together some amazing transitional looks which focused on beautiful knitwear, wide legged trousers and jeans, and a couple of exquisite coats to remind us that although we are thinking of Spring, it is still very much Winter, and oh so cold with it.

With fellow blogger Sarah

Colour was very well represented, from the gorgeous yellow coat teamed with a jade green bag, to this season’s new lilac shade, ripped from the hands of 1980s bridesmaids, and now a seriously hot colour. I loved most of the picks, which were colourful and fun, although I think I would need a lot of persuading to give dungarees a go!

Following on from the fashion, the stylists from Bad Apple Hair were on hand to show us some styles that are going to be big news in 2018. These ranged from low ponytails of the type sported by Gwyneth Paltrow, to mushed up coloured looks that are both directional, and low maintenance.

We were given a chance to have a good look around the shiny new salon, which is perfectly placed to combine shopping and  pampering. The salon looks gorgeous, surprisingly more spacious than I would have believed, and with a contemporary look that is sure to prove popular with the cool crowd who love Topshop. The big screen showing videos is certainly a nice touch.

With thanks to Topshop. Bad Apple Hair and the Brum Bloggers for the Invite.

Friday Fashion – What’s New In Stores

If you are now truly sick and tired of trawling the sales and want to see something new, then this post is just the medicine you need. We are now at my favourite point of the sales, where discounts are up to 70% off, but this can also mean lots of rails of damaged clothing, in no particular order, where mess is the order of the day, and this is certainly not for everyone.

But we are now starting to see some new season pieces in store, along with new pieces that are still perfect for the cold Wintry weather we will have for at least another six weeks or so. Today I am concentrating on a few brands. First is Topshop. I was at an event in the Birmingham Bullring store last night and fell in love with the bright and beautiful new knits that would frankly brighten the dull, foggy days we seem to be stuck with at the moment. Some of the jumpers have a hint of the knitting my nan used to do when I was a child, and this only makes me love them more.

Next is a definite pointer to Spring with the gorgeous Chi Chi London Delicate Dream collection. This is a gorgeous range that incorporates lace, florals and springlike pastels, and is sure to be a celebrity favourite so get in there first.

Speaking of celebrity, I have a great get the look of Meghan Markle’s engagement outfit from New Look, and the style picks from Next from Big Brother’s Emma Willis, who has curated a collection called Emma Loves. It is safe to say that this Emma loves it too.

Happy Shopping!

Preparing For Your Prom

It may seem a long time until the Summer, but time has a way of creeping up on you, and, before you know it, it will be May and Prom Season will be upon us. There is a lot to prepare before it gets to the special day, but the good thing is that January is actually a perfect time to start the preparation, as there are deals to be found, both online and in store, where you can make great savings on prom dresses, shoes and accessories.

If you are looking forward to your prom this Summer, or if you have a teenager who will be taking part in a prom, here are some things that you need to consider in order to make the night perfect.

Prom Dresses

There is so much choice and variation when it comes to finding the perfect prom dress. There are dedicated shops that specialise in prom dresses, but these can be expensive, and also often require you to book an appointment, something that you need to be aware of if you are working to a distinct time frame.

You also need to be aware that some shops have an exclusivity policy, and so will not sell an identical dress to two girls from the same school, this helps you to avoid an embarrassing red carpet faux pas, but can limit your choice if you leave it too late.

If you are on a budget, it is worth checking out online options. ASOS and Chi Chi Clothing have many dresses that would be totally suitable for prom wear in their outlets, and these can be a great way to find something beautiful within your budget . The same can be said for shoes – sparkly designs that are perfect for Christmas can also make a great match for your prom dress, and you should be able to pick them up pretty cheaply in January.

Prom Hair

Another good point about getting your dress early is that you then have time to trial prom hair styles to find a look that is glamorous and coherent. Look carefully at the style of your dress and then try different looks, from tumbling curls to sweeping updo’s, a chic 1920s style bob, to something short and funky. For your look to really wow on prom night, your look needs to work as a whole, it really would be a shame to spoil the look of an amazing gown with scruffy hair.

Your Mode of Transport

As important as what you wear for your prom, is how you get to your prom. In the past, it seemed to be limited to limousines, but these days the prom arrival is now all about thinking outside the box. A friend of mine recently hired a ‘Fast and Furious’ style car for her son to arrive at the prom in, whilst another hired a Hummer. My favourite idea was from a group who clubbed together to hire a Routemaster bus for the prom, and all arrived together. It was a lovely display of friendship and seemed to sum up what the prom was all about.

Do you have a prom to look forward to this Summer?
