Gudrun Sjoden Belem Dress

I will never stop being a fan of the wonderful Gudrun Sjoden. Whilst the rest of the High Street is embracing minimalism and neutrals, Gudrun takes one look and says ‘no, not for me’ and instead treats us to a riot of pattern and colour, in high quality organic cottons that allow us to stretch, move and breathe. A fashion maverick in the vein of Westwood, Betsey Johnson and Pam Hogg, Gudrun’s slice of Scandinavian style is one to love and embrace.

I’ve been a fan of Gudrun since I discovered the brand at a Varg press day a fair few years ago, and each season I add a few new pieces to my wardrobe. My latest piece is the stunning Belem dress, a dress that, on first appearance, may seem a gorgeous casual piece for daytime, due to the loose fitting style, the use of tencel/elastane to give it a soft and stretchy feel, and the addition of…wait for it…POCKETS on the dress. But despite it being the perfect day dress, I put an evening spin on it for a night at the theatre, to show that Gudrun’s pieces can be as glamorous as they are functional and practical.

Gudrun Sjoden say of the dress:-

Our “Belem” print comes into its own in this dress with its slightly looser-fitting style, short sleeves and practical side pockets. Works just as well with leggings as with pants.

But I felt with the addition of heels, and a belt to create a shape to the dress, it could well be adapted into something perfect for the evening. Plus there was that stunning green shade that is both rich and eye catching, making it perfect when teamed with classic black accessories.

Taking my Gudrun Belem dress for a night out

The dress is so easy to wear, stretchy enough to allow for a food baby if you are going to over indulge, and yet classy enough to elicit lots of comments and praise. Add in that it washes like a dream and you have the perfect go-to dress for night or day. Do you want this in your wardrobe – it’s a no brainer really.

Wallis New Season Picks

September has often been called Fashion’s favourite month. With all the new season collections, the various fashion weeks, and of course, the September issues of the glossy magazines, September is a wonderful month for those who love clothes and style.

I am going to be taking a look at some of the new season ranges that are hitting the High Street as we speak, and today I am starting off by looking at the just in pieces from Wallis. Wallis has always been a stylish destination on the High Street, both for casual clothes, workwear and evening wear, and in recent years, it has more fully embraced trends without losing any of the style and quality it is renowned for. This season is no exception, as the brand introduces some great transitional pieces that your wardrobe is just crying out for.

Top picks this season have to be the range of coatigans and duster coats that make the perfect cover up as the days start to develop a chill in the air. It is too early to reach for a big heavy winter coat, but, on days like today, with storm Aileen lingering around the edge of the morning, we certainly need something to add a bit of cosiness. The monochrome texture duster jacket in particular is a glorious piece that will look just stunning worn over coated skinnies and a crisp white shirt for everyday wear, or layered over a black shift dress for a night out.

Colours are fairly muted, a neutral palette with lots of classic black. But there are splashes of primary colours in the shape of cobalt blue and a little bit of regal purple too. And, I have to say I love the baby blue shade of the blue waterfall coat which is so pretty and will certainly add a softness to the day as the weather turns harsher.

Venice Film Festival – Best Looks

The Venice Film Festival is always a glittering and glamorous affair. Although less well known than Cannes, Venice still has its fair share of A List movie stars who come to publicise their latest movies, wearing an array of stunning daytime and Red Carpet outfits as they do so.  The 2017 festival has been no exception to this.

This years festival has been attended by Helen Mirren, Jane Fonda, Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Bosworth. Fashion mavericks Chloe Sevigny and Girls star Zosia Mamet have had a stellar festival, but for me, there is one lady who has totally stole the show with her choice of outfits. British star Rebecca Hall has totally killed it on the red carpet with a whole host of beautiful, elegant looks. I loved her in ‘Starter for 10’ and ‘Frost/Nixon’ and think her star is definitely going to be rising in 2018. Jennifer Lawrence is another lady who has had a super stylish Venice, and Kate Bosworth has also made some stunning choices.

Here are a few more fabulous looks from Venice, with a few red carpet worthy dresses that you can find on the High Street.
