I was sent the Songmics make up storage cosmetic case in the croco pattern to review. This is a lovely large case with an aluminium frame and glossy purple alligator grained PU skin. The case has secure locks on the top, great if you are trying to avoid little ones getting to your make up (we’ve all been there.), and it has a sturdy handle, and a strap if you want to use the case in a portable capacity. (this would work well for a mobile beautician or hairdresser).

Once you open the case you find two rows of shelves on each side, and a large storage unit in the bottom that is ideal for larger bottles, brushes, even for storing a cosmetic bag, it is that large. You can create your own shelf sizes by adding plastic slats so you can make compartments that suit your needs, and these can be moved around if your needs change.

This is a really attractive looking beauty case that is also roomy, practical and strong. For less than £30 it is a great buy. With protective food pads on the bottom of the case, this is not going to be damaged when it is stored on the floor, and the adjustable and removable shoulder strap makes this portable and practical too.

Win! Lee Stafford ‘Lighten Up’ Illuminated Mirror

I am a huge fan of Lee Stafford and his range of affordable, yet oh so glamorous, hair and beauty accessories. The latest addition to his growing collection may just be the most girlie, glam mirror you will ever see. In glorious pink chrome, and with a light up option that doesn’t require you to plug it in, the Lee Stafford ‘Lighten Up’ illuminating, magnifying mirror is sleek and stylish and would be a great gift idea for anyone who loves the fashionable things in life.

One of the main things I love about this mirror is the fact that the illumination comes from batteries. This makes the mirror portable, both in terms of moving it around your house, and for traveling. The mirror takes 3 AA batteries which can be picked up cheaply from Poundland, and these are easy to put in at the bottom of the mirror – no screwdriver required.

The mirror itself is very pretty. It is a glorious shade of hot pink, with the mirror and fitting itself being chrome, the base a similar coloured plastic. There are to separate mirrors with 360degree rotation, so you have normal (1x) magnification which is ideal for putting on make up, whilst the (3x) magnification is perfect for plucking brows, examining skin in more detail, even checking out those wrinkles and new grey hairs. (shudders!)

The illumination is gentle and soft rather than garish and overly bright, think film star mirrors surrounded by lights. This makes it perfect for a dressing table rather than to be used as a bathroom mirror. As this is also beautifully boxed, it would be a great gift idea for a birthday or Mother’s Day.

The mirror comes with a one year guarantee from the date of purchase, but you can win a mirror of your own, worth £29.99 by entering the competition below.

Design a Health and Safety poster and win!

Health and safety at work is a concern that nobody can escape. Every year people suffer injuries in work-based accidents that, on the whole, could’ve been avoided.  These cause everything from time of work, pain and discomfort, to situations that can actually be life changing, or, in the worst extreme, life threatening.

Every employer has a responsibility to ensure that Health and Safety rules are adhered to, and that the workplace is a place of safety for all employees, visitors and customers. To this end The Accident Advice Helpline has put together a competition that aims to raise awareness of Health and Safety through the work of children. They are inviting children under the age of 16 to design a poster illustrating absolutely any aspect relating to health and safety, and more importantly, how we can prevent accidents.

Joe loves drawing and colouring, so we spent this weekend designing our entry for the competition. Joe did a little research into Health and Safety work posters before choosing the hazards he wanted to highlight in his poster.

Joe chose Health and Safety issues that were relevant to him – washing your hands, crossing the road with the Lollipop man, wearing a helmet when you ride a bike, and wiping up if you spill something – something he does, constantly (grrr). Joe is not the world’s best artist, but he does love drawing and colouring in and was very proud when it came to his finished work.
