December Outfit post – Part 1- Build up to Christmas

Happy New Year to you all! I’m starting the year with the usual outfit round up, this time for the month of December. But, as December has been a very busy and active month, I am going to split December into two posts, with this one being the run up to Christmas, which was filled with parties, panto’s and all around good living.

Party season meant some new pieces added to my wardrobe, and a dip into my sparkly wardrobe currently housed in my son Joe’s room. New pieces include the Untold dress from House of Fraser, which is probably the shortest thing I had worn in years, and the River Island Bardot top which was an early Christmas present from the hubby. From the wardrobe came the gold, glitter tunic that I found at a jumble sale years ago, and often gets worn with leggings – this time I teamed it with coloured skinny jeans.

I often say that if you buy classic pieces you will wear them forever. A case in point is the Bertie 1920s style Mary Janes that I wore for a Christmas party. I got these in a Debenhams Shoe Studio sale a week before I got married – in 2017 I’ll be celebrating my twelfth wedding anniversary. I still love those shoes and still wear them a lot, no danger of them disappearing to a charity shop in 2017. My M&S pull on crushed velvet boots are also around 8 years old, and have been worn a lot this year as velvet has had a style moment – they are certainly perfect for panto season as they have just a touch of principal boy style about them.

What did you wear in the run up to Christmas 2016?

November Outfits Post #WIWT

November is always a busy month, because it is when the road to Christmas really begins. So this month has been filled with really lovely events, shows and parties which has been a great excuse to get into my second wardrobe. This is one that lives in my son’s room and contains my party wear, the clothes covered in sequins, sparkle and glitter. Because, if you can’t sparkle at this time of year, I’m really not sure when you can.

As ever, I have tried to link to pieces that are in shops now, or have featured alternatives in similar styles, cuts and colours. My second wardrobe is one that I dip into every year, so many of the pieces are season’s old, but prove that when you buy classics, you can wear them year in, year out, without ever really falling out of fashion. A case in point is my Gudrun Sjoden red velour dress that I first wore last year. I wore it for a trip to the theatre and had so many comments and lovely remarks on my Instagram feed. The green sequin skirt I wore for the grotto at House of Fraser was first worn on Christmas Day 2014, and made another appearance, although it is now too big so I have to wear a safety pin on the waist to keep it from falling down!

Now we are into December I am really giving that sparkle an airing, and will look forward to sharing the December #WIWT post in the New Year. But, for now, I would love to know what outfits you are wearing and loving as we head towards Christmas.

Instagram for Fashion

[affilinet_performance_ad size=468×60]

When it comes to my favourite social media platform, I have to say that currently I am in love with Instagram. In recent years this is a platform that has really took off, for both business and pleasure reasons. Instagram provides a visual, online diary of photographs and images that can be used to both promote a business and blog, or purely for personal reasons of sharing family photographs. From a business point of view, Instagram has become another source of promotion that can now be handled by companies like Vibbi, helping you to build up your profile and following, helping with correct hashtags and increasing your views. For personal accounts, Instagram has become another way of sharing proud moments, first teeth, first smile, wedding days, birthdays and all those other memories. Clearly Instagram is big business.

I was quite late to the Instagram party, having a bit of an aversion to smart phones, which I seem to break on a fairly regular basis. However, since joining I have become pretty addicted to the format and now post daily. My current following is just over 1100, which is growing on a regular basis and now has lots of interaction. I find that my most popular posts are those related to fashion – specifically the #WIWT #OOTD posts, where I share outfits, shopping and charity and vintage fashion finds.

I have recently seen a good increase in both the amount of likes and interaction on my instagram feed. This is partly due to looking at when it is best to post – for me this is early morning or evening, and also looking carefully at the hashtags I use. I have researched hashtags relating to fashion, and specifically charity shop fashion and vintage fashion, and have noticed likes by like minded people and similar accounts. I still post photographs of a personal nature – for me, I like instagram to be as much about my life as it is about my blog, but ultimately, it is the fashion that seems to appeal to my followers.

Another find I do is tag in stores and independent fashion companies who’s clothes I am wearing, whether or not these are for review purposes or just from my own wardrobe. It has been nice when items have been ‘regrammed’ by companies like Lavitta, Oasis and Scarlett and Jo, and also draws people to take a closer look on the blog, which can only be a good thing in terms of growing a blog audience.

What are your thoughts on Instagram?
