Flower Power at Phase Eight

When it comes to floral prints and fashion, there is always a bit of a love/hate relationship. The print is undoubtedly popular, particularly when Summer comes around, a natural choice for weddings, race days and ladies days. But it also has the reputation for being a safe and staid choice – let’s face it, if we are talking about sexy or sophisticated, flowers may not be the first print that comes to mind.

Yet this would be a shame, because floral prints can be so much more than the print your grandma would love to see you wearing. Beautiful, hot red carpet looks have taken the deepest of red flower power prints and added full skirts and sweetheart necklines to give a real Sophia Loren look that says more va va voom than Chelsea Flower show. Sophia Bush (top image) has forties style waves, vampish red lips and a firecracker print that shows just how delectable a print made up of booms can be.

Phase Eight is always a good place to look for a real variety of floral prints, with plenty of dresses each season in a range of shapes. They have just launched a flower power collection and have asked me to put together a favourite look. I have used the hot red prints and forties and fifties shapes of the ladies below to plot a favourite look that should be perfect for anything from a wedding to summer party season.

Cannes 2016 – Fave looks so far

Oh the glamour! The Cannes film festival has to be the most glorious confection of fashion that you will see anywhere. As someone who is a total glutton for fashion that is full of elegance and beauty, Cannes always ticks all the boxes. Quite simply put, Cannes if the film festival where movie stars are MOVIE STARS, in the retro, vintage, old Hollywood sense of the word. Add in stunning models and singers, and more yachts than you can shake a stick at, and the 69th annual Cannes film Festival has glitz and sparkle in abundance.

This year Blake Lively is a strong contender for Queen of Cannes, wearing a series of looks that are both versatile and striking. She has strong competition from the ever beautiful Naomi Watts and Anna Kendrick, who never seem to get it wrong. Other Cannes ever presents include Eva Longoria and Cheryl Cole, who are there representing L’Oreal, and Kirsten Dunst, another lady with a strong fashion tradition at Cannes, and a previous best actress winner.

My favourite looks so far include the retro look worn by Anna Kendrick for the daytime Trolls photocall, the unusual gown covered in a spoon (yes that does say spoon – as in cutlery) print worn by the flawless Kirsten Dunst, and Blake Lively in a very floaty Vivienne Westwood gown. I also love the final gown in this parade, the sequined glamorous number worn by Julianne Moore, very grown up and elegant.

What is your favourite gown so far?

Glastonbury – Will it be Wellies or Havaianas?

The crowds are already gathering, the tents are being pitched, and today, as is usual for Glastonbury in recent years, the rain has fallen. Because it seems that if there is one thing we can rely on in the UK, it is the weather not living up to its side of the bargain. Festivals are always at their best on balmy nights, but this is Britain, so it pays to be prepared.

With all that in mind, it seems that when we think of festival footwear, we are split firmly into two camps. For those hot, sun-soaked days, the shoes of choice can be little more than a pair of flip-flops. But not any old flip-flop, but the Rolls Royce of Flip Flops, Havaianas, beloved of celebrities from Madonna and Kirsten Dunst, to Jennifer Aniston, who seems to spend every summer with a pair  permenantly welded to her feet.

But what if the weather turns truly biblical? Then we can only go for the footwear that is another favourite of many a celeb, from Kate Moss to Coleen Rooney, the Hunter welly. This classic English wellington boot has been subverted from farmer’s attire by its teaming with hotpants and glitter, but is a real godsend once the legendary Glasto mud finds its stride.

ORIGINAL TALL GLOSS Grey / Verne £ 91.99 click to visit Spartoo

Whatever the weather, you are sure to find a stylish option to wear on your feet, whether it be Havaianas or Hunter. But if all fails, you could always be like Alexandra Burke at the V Festival and combine the two options by wearing a pair of Havaianas wellies. Seriously cute!
