December Outfits Post

December was lovely. December was fun. It combined lots of opportunities for going out, to theatres, shows, for a long weekend in Blackpool for Joe’s ninth birthday, but it also had to be juggled against horrendous flu, which made me feel miserable throughout the fun.

In terms of outfits, December is the perfect time to wear sparkle, a time when you can find those pieces you have hidden in the back of the wardrobe, and wear them because you really shouldn’t be outshone by your Christmas tree. I found items like the golden skirt that I’ve had for a few years, but always drag it out again at Christmas, and my New Year’s cape effect dress. I got this in the Boohoo sale last Christmas, but didn’t wear it until the last night of 2017. It was a similar story with the Jersey Boys dress, picked up for £18 at the end of Summer from Oasis, and then kept in the wardrobe for a sparkly occasion.

Christmas saw some new additions to the wardrobe in the form of gifts. This included the tulle Swan Lake style skirt and gold glitter Cuban heels that were both pressies from the hubby this year. The red glitter knit jumper from H&M was a present from my mom, and I really wish I’d have also got it in the silver version as it is so warm and pretty.

The sales are now well and truly under way, so now may be the perfect time to have a hunt around to see if something you loved before Christmas is now available at a lower bargain price – who doesn’t love a bargain? I’ve already grabbed some Topshop earrings and a pair of Dorothy Perkins slippers, plus I’ve got a great Betty Jackson jacket at a charity shop that I will share soon in a charity shop haul post.

A snapshot of my seasonal buys.

I don’t usually write posts about my own personal shopping habits, but this year I have found myself having to be a bit frugal in my choices due to having much less disposable funds that usual. This has led to me choosing a mixture of seasonal buys, charity shop finds, and recycling of some very old pieces from my wardrobe. Here are some of the pieces I have invested in this year.

Next Buys

I was asked to choose a piece from Next’s latest collection after my shoes blog was chosen as one of the best of the month. I totally fell in love with this lace topped piece that I call ‘The Middleton’ because of its resemblance to the Royal Wedding dress. I have already worn this once for a trip to see A Christmas Carol at Birmingham Town Hall. Unfortunately, there are no pictures of that occasion as heavy rain turned me into a drowned rat.But here is the dress in all its glory!

I also got a fab horse print top from Next in brown/black. I wore this to a bloggers meet up and had lots of comments about it – I never realised how many people love horse prints. Stella and Luella have a lot to answer for. My top seems to be out of stock online, but I have just found this one, modelled by the lovely Arizona Muse, and think I may be in love again.

New Look

I had a £50 voucher for New Look which I used to buy some key pieces for my evening wardrobe. I’m in the middle of an Art Deco obsession, so this beautiful top was a must. I wore it with a really old, black pencil skirt from River Island and was pleased with the effect.

I also got a fab metallic foil jumper. This is ideal because it is cosy and warm, yet with a touch of Winter sparkle. I plan to wear this on Boxing Day when I take my Baba out to enjoy his new remote-controlled car.

I also got these platform courts in orange. I love black opaque tights with bright coloured heels and also have an orange dress these will look great with for a matchy-matchy look.

Debenhams

I got this Matthew Williamson Butterfly dress at Debenhams. It reminds me of the Peace and Love Mulberry dress worn by the Duchess of Cambridge last month. The belt was broken on the dress, the only one left in my size, so I got it for quite a sizeable discount. Remember to ask for discount if there is damage to an item that could be repaired or, in my case, replaced.

I’ve also chosen some of my own Christmas presents courtesy of hubby from Debenhams. I love this shiny, quilted purse in vibrant green and the royal blue tote bag, very similar to those Ted Baker Sweete Shoppe buys, but a fraction of the price for a real bargain. These items currently have another 20% off, so you could treat yourself if you have cash or vouchers this Christmas.

One of the best parts of Christmas is the dressing up. I’ve been enjoying wearing my new buys this year, and now can’t wait to see what Santa brings. Merry Christmas everybody!
