January Outfit Post #WIWT

My hatred for the month of January knows no bounds. It is always a cold month, and following on from all the brightness and sparkle of December, it would be hard to it to shine. No-one seems to have any money, there’s not a lot going on, and to top it all, some of the most amazing people seem to choose this month to bow out, with David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Dolores O’Riorden and my football hero Cyrille Regis all dying in this most depressing of months. Yes, January is horrible.

Janaury’s outfit post is a mixture of old favourites, charity shop finds and sales bargains. The end of sales can be a bit of a mess, but can also yield real bargains, and many websites still have extensive sales sections where you can grab a great bargain with up to 70% off. The Dorothy Perkins floral blouse and River Island white lace top were both fab sales pieces that I know I will wear again and again, whilst the black sequin dress which I wore for my sister’s birthday was a £10 bargain from Peacocks, a classic look that I can wear for parties for years to come.

I discovered a great new online store this month. LOTD (Look of the Day) is chocked full with wearable pieces that are super affordable. I love my black boots and the mustard coloured jumper is just so versatile – and that colour is a wow!

December Outfits Post

December was lovely. December was fun. It combined lots of opportunities for going out, to theatres, shows, for a long weekend in Blackpool for Joe’s ninth birthday, but it also had to be juggled against horrendous flu, which made me feel miserable throughout the fun.

In terms of outfits, December is the perfect time to wear sparkle, a time when you can find those pieces you have hidden in the back of the wardrobe, and wear them because you really shouldn’t be outshone by your Christmas tree. I found items like the golden skirt that I’ve had for a few years, but always drag it out again at Christmas, and my New Year’s cape effect dress. I got this in the Boohoo sale last Christmas, but didn’t wear it until the last night of 2017. It was a similar story with the Jersey Boys dress, picked up for £18 at the end of Summer from Oasis, and then kept in the wardrobe for a sparkly occasion.

Christmas saw some new additions to the wardrobe in the form of gifts. This included the tulle Swan Lake style skirt and gold glitter Cuban heels that were both pressies from the hubby this year. The red glitter knit jumper from H&M was a present from my mom, and I really wish I’d have also got it in the silver version as it is so warm and pretty.

The sales are now well and truly under way, so now may be the perfect time to have a hunt around to see if something you loved before Christmas is now available at a lower bargain price – who doesn’t love a bargain? I’ve already grabbed some Topshop earrings and a pair of Dorothy Perkins slippers, plus I’ve got a great Betty Jackson jacket at a charity shop that I will share soon in a charity shop haul post.

Hootenanny 2017 – Beth Ditto and Jessie Ware

Jools Holland’s Hootenanny has become the traditional way to end the year, a guarantee of some good music to make any knees up go with a end of year bang. And even if your party consists of you and the wife/hubby due to being a parent, and if your New Year’s outfit is actually your pyjamas, when George McCrae is ringing in the new year singing ‘Rock your baby’ all is right with the world.

Hootenanny is also known for being a stylish affair, with fashionista’s such as Jessie J, Paloma Faith and Imelda May being guests in previous years, helping to make the show a visual feast as well as a treat for the ears. This year it was Beth Ditto and Jessie Ware adding the glamour quota.

Beth Ditto

I love how Beth Ditto adds the glamour to any occasion, and the fact that she was also performing one of my all time favourite 70s tracks, ‘Young Hearts Run Free’by Candi Staton, just made my night.

She looked totally amazing in a red shimmering gown that was the perfect choice for New Year, or just about any party occasion. Beth shows that plus size fashion can be brilliant, glamorous and so much fun, and once again, I applaud her sass and shine. She killed it.

Jessie Ware

The sensational Jessie Ware had an old school Hollywood glamour for her appearance on Hootenanny, with an utterly beautiful feathered dress that harked back to the golden days of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. The dress was a perfect fit for the jazz tinged ‘Do Nothing Til’ You Hear From Me’. If you can’t wear a showstopper of a dress on New Year’s Eve, then when can you wear one?

Did you watch this year’s Hootenanny? What did you think of the show?
