Queens of Coachella

Coachella is here! Yes, the festival that is a triumph of good weather is happening as I write this, which means we are getting our first real view of festival style for 2014.  Queen of Coachella Kate Bosworth is once again showing off her style credentials, first in a Carven playsuit, and then in a boho style white tunic for the H&M.

Kate always nails Coachella style.

Kate may be the Queen of Coachella, but she is not the only one showing off some serious style at the festival. Selena Gomez showed why white can be a good choice for a festival, as long as it isn’t a festival held in the UK, or anywhere mud is to be expected. Her see through, lace maxi dress looked ethereal and just the right side of retro boho. Other celebrities also chose to chanel boho, with Emmy Rossum resplendent in a blue and white floral dress, and Katy Perry (who now has Grotbags hair for some reason?) also wearing a retro/boho look in a floral midi skirt and off the shoulder top. It Girl of the moment Kendall Jenner chanelled Kate Moss chaneling Anita Pallenberg in denim hotpants and a flowing cape style jacket.

On stage Solange and Beyonce lead the way in the style stakes, with Solange just edging it in vibrant orange. I also thought that Zoe Kravitz looked super cool in a grey maxi skirt teamed with a crop top – a style of outfit that was a look back to the early 1990s and the grunge era.

Teen Choice awards – My favourite looks

The Teen Choice awards are always an excuse for young Hollywood’s stars of television, music and film to have a bit of fun with fashion. This means we get to see a little too much skin, outfits sometimes more suited to the beach, and looks more akin to outfits chosen for ‘the mall’ or a barbecue than those you normally see on a red carpet. And this means I often struggle to see looks that I actually like.

But there are always stars who buck the trend and show off choices that are definitely A*. Here are my three favourite looks this year, and a few ideas on how you can get a similar look. I have also added a few other looks that I think were also successful.

Whose look did you rate?

Selena Gomez

In bottle green Cushnie et Ochs, Selena Gomez surprised in so many ways. The dress was sophisticated, avoiding the summery shades that so many of the lady guests chose. Minimal accessories completed this look, and with her hair super sleek, she was definitely on the best dressed list.

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington chose something that was fun but still age appropriate for the Teen Choice awards. Her white dress from Stella McCartney could almost be a collaboration with Lulu Guinness, full of Lulu’s favourite motifs, lips and lovehearts. I also loved the long sleeves in the sea of bra tops.

Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev chose a J Mendal top and trouser combination which showed why she is considered one of the most stylish stars of the minute. Her tapered trousers were seriously sexy, and the deep v of the top worked well on her slim frame. A slightly messy ponytail only added to the look, which was another standout.

MTV EMA’S – The best looks.

Sunday saw the MTV European Music Awards. Lady divas  were out in force with Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jessie J and Katy B all in attendance. But, as seems to be usual from the MTV fright shows, seriously good fashion looks were a bit thin on the ground. Lady Gaga looked like she’d lost her heart to a starship trouper in futuristic Paco Rabanne,Katy Perry came as a bad Frenchie from Grease lookalike complete with kitsch 50s outfit and pink hair, whilst Jennifer Metcalfe wore Olivia Newton John’s bad girl trousers from the same film.

Still, there were a few looks worth checking out again, and here they are.

Jessie J showed that a leopard print maxi dress is something that is not confined to the summer with her vibrant Dolce and Gabbana gown. Her Marcel wave hair looked similar  to the style sported by Fearne Cotton at present. This is a dramatic departure for Jessie and I think it suits her.

Selena Gomez was the presenter on the night and wore lots of outfits,  but my favourite was the exquisite white Marchesa dress that she arrived in. Some have dismissed this as being a bit Ice Queen, or Swan Lake, but I prefer to see this as a beautiful snow princess. She is so fresh and pretty that she is able to pull this look off with aplomb.

Hayden Panattiere kept to that classic colour palette of black and white for her simply chic outfit. It wasn’t exactly a rock and roll outfit, but it was neat and stylish and looked great with her funky crop.
