X Factor Live Show – Week 2 Fashion

Week 2, and the X Factor is still seriously underwhelming us on the question of musical talent. With the exceptions of Hannah, Sam Bailey and the knockout and eventual winner that has to be Tamera, the show is woefully under-represented when it comes to real talent. Thank goodness then, for the fashion watch, which at least adds another element of interest to the story.

And this week it was most definitely honours even, with Nicole being the undeniable winner of Saturday night, and Sharon taking the plaudits on Sunday’s results show.

Saturday Night

Nicole always looks amazing when she wears bright colours, and Saturday was no exception. Her halter styled dress from Sen Couture was totally elegant with its column skirt, and Nicole’s toned arms were shown to perfection through the cut of the neckline. Her sweeping updo was also perfect for this dress, totally complimenting the graceful look of the dress.

ustv-the-x-factor-1910-1I cannot say I was such a fan of Sharon’s monochrome gown. It was undeniably elegant in design, and yet there was something not quite right about it. The cutout detail seemed all wrong, it was quite a Dynasty 1980s look that really did nothing for Sharon, or her body shape. Blogger and personal stylist Karen Grace, who writes the Frumpy t0 Funky blog suggested that the dress would look far better if the colour ways were reversed, so the black paneling acted similar to an illusion dress, and I think this could be a solution. Otherwise, I’m thinking, this is a dress disaster for Mrs O.

The Sunday evening results show was a triumph, this time for Sharon. Nicole plumped for a black dress from Kristen Aadnevik that utilised one of those sheer skirts that I am just so bored of. Nicole obviously looked stunning, her bouncing curls were so pretty, and the bodice of the dress was beautiful. But the view of Bridget Jones style knickers are just becoming yawnsome, I think she is capable of so much more.

Sharon’s dress was pure Jessica Rabbit glamour, shimmering gold sequins that turned Mrs O from a grandmother into a goddess. I love the fact that she is showing options perfect for women who want to cover their arms, offering an alternative to strapless and sleeveless frocks, and I think this is something that the High Street are picking up on, with Wallis one store offering some amazing full length, long-sleeved gowns.

X Factor Live Show – First Week Fashion

From the definitive X Factor days of Dannii and Cheryl, watching the outfits has always been a big part of my X Factor viewing. Last year Nicole Scherzinger was consistently amazing in her choices, upstaging her brash co-star Tulisa on a number of occasions. This year, we are set for a different view on fashion with returning judge Sharon Osbourne. Sharon is as cool as hell in my eyes, but she is also 62 and a grandmother, and so will be looking for different things from her X Factor wardrobe.

Also, although she is stylish, she could never be called an icon of style, in the way that Nicole has been wining plaudits. Her wardrobe has rather a gothic feel in acres of black, with just the occasional pieces of monochrome tied in. So how would Sharon fair in the arena of the live shows?

202173-judgesThe first live show saw both ladies turn on the glitz and glamour. Sharon opted against black and instead chose a gorgeous emerald-green shade that contrasted perfectly against her red hair. With long sleeves and a 1980s style silhouette, complete with those Joan Collins shoulder pads, I think this was a good look for Sharon, flattering in both colour and shape. I was actually less impressed with Nicole’s Julian Macdonald choice. This dress just seemed made for someone with a smaller bust. Nicole’s curves made it seem a little out of shape at the front – should that mesh panel really gap so wide? The fringes were described as Gatsby-esque, but to me they said ‘unfinished’.  The hair and make-up looked beautiful, but the dress – I just wasn’t a fan.

On Sunday night both ladies opted for classic black designs. Nicole chose Kristian Aadnevik for the first results show, a classy mixture of black leather and velvet. I loved her messy updo, and the detailing of this dress, deceptively simple on a first look, but with lace paneling on the sides and almost a ladder effect on the back. Fabulous.

Sharon wore a gothically glam black gown, with lace effect sleeves and side paneling. Another good choice from Mrs O.

I don’t think this year is going to be setting music alight, but it may just prove to be a vintage year for fashion.

X Factor Fash Off Week 6

The latest edition of X Factor proved to be the battle of the boybands, with Union J proving the victor. On the fashion front, the honours were pretty much even again, with Tulisa the clear winner on Saturday night, and Nicole looking wonderful during the live results show.

Saturday saw Tulisa go all Downton Abbey on us with a stunning Art Deco style beaded dress from Alice Temperley. This was a column dress that had previously been worn by Shirley Bassey, but it was a classically beautiful look that gave Tulisa an elegance that she rarely exhibits. She chose an interesting hairstyle with this dress that also had a Lady Mary feel, pinned underneath it gave the impression of a triangular bob. I prefer her long locks, but full marks for experimentation, and overall I thought that the younger lady looked simply divine.

Nicole went all androgynous in a white trouser suit by Jean Pierre Braganza. Now this look is iconic and has been worn with immense style by the likes of Angelina Jolie, but on Nicole it just didn’t appeal. I think it was all the layers – the shirt, what looked like a waistcoat and then the Tux. Maybe if she had just worn the tuxedo Bianca Jagger style, this would’ve worked, but the trousers also seemed a little on the large size for the svelte Miss Scherzinger, so maybe not.

Sunday results show

You really can’t beat a bit of McQueen, and the vintage McQueen gown worn by Nicole on the Sunday results show was super stunning, if not a little beachy. I seem to recall a pregnant Angelina Jolie (yes, again!) wearing a green version of this dress when she was pregnant, but the soft grey was a really great colour for Nicole, and with loose hair this was a very romantic look that I just adored.

Tulisa so nearly got it right on Sunday night. The black dress by Forever Unique is beautiful, with stunning embellished detail across the top and back. But this dress is better suited to a nightclub or party than to the X Factor, being a little too short. Also, this dress has already been worn by TOWIE’s Lucy Mecklenburgh and widely photographed, so it was a bit of a faux pas to wear this on prime time television.
