Friday fashion focus – Yellow

When it comes to colour, there is one shade that I always move towards. Yellow is the colour of sunshine, custard, buttercups and dandelions, of pretty tea roses and Big Bird, and it is one of my favourite things. I love it in Winter when the days are short and dark, it just adds a little bit of sparkle to make everything seem a little brighter. In Spring and Summer, it just adds to the general mood lifting and frankly makes me feel a little bit happier.

Celebs love yellow too.

For fans of yellow, now is a great time to add a few more bright and beautiful pieces to your wardrobe. The High Street and Designer ranges are just chocked full of yellow pieces, ranging from soft lemon shades to really vibrant, zesty yellows. You can opt for accessories if not feeling brave enough for a yellow dress – there are some really gorgeous yellow shoes about at the moment. Or maybe you could go for a bag, I’m loving the yellow version of the La Pliage bag from Selfridges.

What are your thoughts on yellow? It may not be the pantone colour for 2015, but it is definitely my first choice.

Mellow Yellow Shoes bring a ray of sunshine

With the clocks going forward in the early hours, it will be official, British Summertime will begin. And although I have seen more than a few jokes on Twitter this morning (mainly about getting an extra hour of daylight to play in the snow), I am really hoping that the arrival of BST will also mean the weather starts to improve and that we finally get to see a bit of Spring sunshine.

But just in case the sun doesn’t quite make an appearance, there is no reason why you can’t have a bit of sunshine in your wardrobe. And what better way to add a bit of brightness than in your shoes? I’m a huge fan of yellow and mustard shade shoes and always have at least one pair in my wardrobe. The fab bright colour makes a welcome addition to most outfits, and they are the perfect shade for  summer holiday sandals. This season, Spartoo has a fabulous range of yellow shoe, including a pair of Swedish Hasbeens that I have already earmarked as a must for my summer holiday. I also love the Timeless Nevis flats, cute and stripy, and a total snip at less than £20, whilst the floral printed Doc Martens are perfect for the woman who wants to avoid being a total girlie girl, yet still wants to tap into the brights trend.

Shoe Lust – Clarks Dollar Craze

I adore shoes, and am often struck down by what can only be described as ‘Shoe Lust’. This happened to me again a couple of weeks ago when I was asked if I would like to review a pair of shoes for iconic British brand Clarks. I obviously jumped at the chance because I had been experiencing severe shoe lust for almost all of Clarks Spring/Summer collection, but especially for the pair I chose. Ladies and Gentlemen, bow down in awe of the shoes that are the Dollar Craze in gorgeous Ochre.

These are just such gorgeous shoes. The colour is a real sunshine yellow shade that just adds a touch of brightness to the most sombre of outfits (or days for that matter…). The style is very reminiscent of 1940s block platforms, the forerunner of the more outlandish 70s platform, with a concealed mini platform which helps to make these comfortable as well as beautiful.

These shoes have a real Mary Jane style, and are in the softest suede,  which gives them a further vintage feel. The heel is not too high, making  these perfectly wearable for everyday use,  and the peeptoe is wide enough that your tie is in no danger of having the circulation cut off.

In terms of sizing, I usually wear size 5, wide fitting shoes. As these were not wide fitting I took advantage of the fact that Clarks are one of the few companies who stock half sizes and I went up to a 5.5. This was a perfectly comfortable  fit, so going up by a half-size may be a good compromise if you usually buy wider fitting shoes.

And how would you style them. I basically think that Mary Janes look pretty fabulous with anything, from a cotton sundress, to kick flare 70s denims of the sort being worn by Victoria Beckham at the moment. My favourite match for Mary Janes are 40s style tea dresses. I attended the Louboutin press conference on Monday and proudly sported my Clarks Dollar Craze shoes with a pretty Clements Ribeiro for Evans teadress.

I really love this shoe, but if Ochre is not your colour, fear not. The shoe also comes in classic black, royal navy and mink suede, which is a perfect nude shade.
