Why its women against women in the world of fashion.

At the Los Angeles premiere of the movie ‘You again’, Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver committed the ultimate fashion sin, they turned up on the red carpet in the same David Meister teal dress. This was just a publicity gimmick to promote the film rather than a serious faux pas, but it did get me thinking. In the world of fashion there are only so many dresses, so many shops, so many designers, but there are a hell of a lot of women. So, it is natural that people will turn up at the same place in the same outfit from time to time, both in the normal and…

London Fashion Week – The good, the bad and Mark Fast!

Well, it’s almost the end of London Fashion week, and it’s not been without its drama. We’ve had a moving memorial service to the ‘enfant terrible’ of British Fashion, Alexander McQueen. We’ve had lots of models taking a tumble, particularly at the Burberry Prorsum show. Star studded front rows, Anna Wintour, Carinne Roitfeld Reston from French Vogue, Olivia Palermo, Cat Deeley, Sarah Jessica Parker. Star models Daisy Lowe, Agyness Deynn, Kelly Brook and Abbey Clancy. And then there’s been the clothes, so many shows, so little time. So here’s my personal opinion of the good, bad and Mark Fast at London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011. THE GOOD Christopher Kane. This…

Why fashion won’t forget Alexander McQueen.

In the midst of the glamour and hustle of London Fashion week, the fashion community turned out to remember one of their own. Yesterday, a service of remembrance was held to celebrate and remember the life of Lee ‘Alexander’ McQueen, who took his own life earlier this year. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Daphne Guinness and Anna Wintour were amongst those attending the memorial service to the tragic maverick genius, whose designs elicited a stream of strong emotions amongst fashion critics. Some loved them, even uncompromising collections like ‘Highland Rape’, with its mixture of rough Scottish tartan and lace creations. Isabella Blow, the eccentric, and ultimately tragic fashionista,…

    Bargain Hunters flock to NEWLIFE

Fashionistas and bargainistas alike flocked to Bridgtown on Saturday and Sunday for the amazing £1 NEWLIFE sale.  The charity, which raises much-needed funds for disabled children, were hosting the two-day event in their temporary warehouse, and hundreds flocked to pick up the bargains and support a worthwhile cause. The first 100 people through the doors also got themselves a free pair of jeans. The event started at 10am on Saturday, with over 300 people coming through the doors in the first hour. The event was so busy that fashion-mommy had to wait outside for 15 minutes because it was just too congested inside the warehouse.  But it was definitely worth…

    The bridesmaids wear black!

My only sister Jodie (or Piggle, as Baba insists on calling her for no particular reason!) is getting married in December. I’m really excited to be her maid of honour as I haven’t been a bridesmaid since I was 5 years old. On that occasion I wore a 1970’s tastic blue satin dress and my hair in ringlets.  But being a bridesmaid can lead to all sorts of nightmares. Anyone who has watched the fab Katherine Heigl in ‘27 dresses‘ will know that, in the not too distant past, bridesmaids had to manoeuvre their way through the minefield that was the meringue dress. Acres and Acres of peach ghastliness, with…
