Update Your Home For 2019

When those Christmas decorations finally come down (and I know that some of you have already done this, although traditionally they should be up until 12th night), the house looks decidedly bare. But the very bareness and sparseness after  the Christmas excess makes it the perfect time to make a few home updates that will have your home all ready for 2019.

Take a look at your floors

Floors are, by their definition, one of the most hard working parts of your home. They see lots of wear and tear, spillage and general use that means they can begin to look tired and in need of some TLC. If your home is carpeted and you happen to have young children and pets this can be very noticeable, and this is why many people are now moving towards alternative kinds of flooring, including wooden and natural floors.

Companies like Lifestyle Flooring offer a wide range of Clearance flooring in a range of styles including Karndean, Amtico and laminate which means you can update your look in an affordable way.  If you have a little more to spend, Kahrs flooring offers engineered wooden flooring from a prestige Swedish brand and could totally change the look of your room.

Look at those walls

Sometimes all it takes is to add a touch of paint to update your home and make it look fresh and clean again. Walls are another part of the home that shows wear and tear for all to see, especially if you have young children who mistake the wall for a painting easel, or somewhere to smear their chocolate. Simply splashing your walls with a cream or magnolia paint can make a room look light and fresh.

Shop the Sales

The sales are a great opportunity to get updates from your home with massive savings. All the big home and retail stores have huge sales, ranging from furniture to soft furnishings, and so adding new cushions, curtains, candles and bedspreads can help you to create a whole new look that will totally lift the post season drabness.

If you have a bigger piece of furniture that you need to replace, then this is the time to look with a range of great offers, and some buy now, pay later deals available if you are still paying off Christmas.

How Families Can Make Their Homes Feel Warmer This Winter.

We’re in the throes of winter and coming home to a warm house has become the best part of the day. However, for some, switching on the heating can be a huge decision.

A recent survey looked to find out why more and more households are leaving it until the very last minute to switch on the heating. Even if it’s icy outside and temperatures have fallen heavily, many families are still refusing to turn on the heating. Ever increasing energy bills are forcing people to look at other ways of conserving heating.

But there are other things that you can do to make your home feel warmer, as it could be that you are actually allowing the warmth to leave your home.

Here are a few things that you should be looking at to make your home warmer and more economical this Winter.

Is Your Loft Insulated?

The problem in many homes is that even when the central heating is on, the heat is escaping and therefore it needs to be left on longer and longer. Having your loft insulated is one way to prevent the warmth leaving your home, and it also helps keep your home cooler in Summer. Loft Insulation can be installed in the loft floor or between the beams of the roof, depending on what you want to use your loft for, storage or a living space. It is relatively cheap to buy loft insulation, but the rewards are immense and heating bills should be cut.

Remember, heat rises, so if your loft isn’t insulated, up to 25 per cent of your home’s heat is escaping through the roof. That means you are paying for 25% of those heating bills for the heat to literally disappear through your roof.

Doors and Windows

Another thing to check is your external doors and windows. If you can feel a draught coming through you need to look at ways to stop this. Double glazing is brilliant for this and if you are looking for double glazing Cheltenham you could check out Albany Windows who have some really good deals. If your budget doesn’t run to this then look at things like thicker curtains that could add another layer of insulation – lined curtains work really well for this. Keep curtains open when the daytime sun is out, but close as soon as night starts to set in.

Bare Floorboards

It is fashionable these days to have bare floorboards, but boy are they a cold option. In Winter, it pays to have these covered up with a large rug, which will stop the cold coming up from concrete floors and will make your home look and feel cosier.

Shut Doors

A simple task like keeping your doors shut should help to keep warmth in, so when you are in one room, shut the doors, Also keep doors shut on rooms you are not using, like the bedroom during the day to keep them as warm as possible.

What tips do you have to keep your home warm in Winter?

Elf The Christmas Spectacular At Resorts World

It is the brightest, shiniest show of the year, one totally worthy of the title Christmas spectacular and it is now wowing audiences in Birmingham Resorts World with its tale of  Christmas spirit. Elf the Christmas Spectacular is just wonderful and if you don’t enjoy it then you must be a Cotton Haired Ninny Muggins.

The story from the Will Ferrell classic movie is still recognisable, along with lots of those favourite, famous lines (‘Santa, I know him’, ‘The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear’, ‘That’s not Santa,’ and my own fave ‘Smiling’s my favourite’) but other scenes have been changed, and new scenes added to make the show really stand out on the big stage. So there’s no angry elf, but you do have a very impressive scene featuring lots of dancing Santa’s which will live long in the memory. And whilst there are no reindeers, the flying Christmas sleigh is a truly magical experience that made the children in the auditorium truly gasp.

The Legendary David Essex is just the right side of stern and unsmiling as Buddy’s dad Walter Hobbs, keeping the smile off his face even as he faces Buddy’s often hilarious behaviour. Martine McCutcheon still sounds like an absolute dream, her beautiful voice soars through the auditorium playing Buddy’s girlfriend Jovie, and then there is Buddy himself. Played by the brilliant Tam Ryan, the best compliment I can make is that Tam is Buddy, he is just wonderfully funny, and childlike, a perfect embodiment of Christmas spirit. He totally steals the show.

With children from the Pauline Quirke academy, all those Santa’s and a wonderfully festive Christmas storyline that leaves you with a warm glow, Elf is not to be missed the Christmas.
