Acorns – Second Hand First Choice
I spent a wonderful night last week at one of the Acorns shops that supports the vital work of the Acorns Children’s Hospice. The shop, in Barnt Green, was hosting a media night to promote Sustainable Fashion Week, which runs from 25th September to 8th October. (Yes, I know that’s a fortnight!). As this week also falls into ‘Second Hand September’ it really is the perfect opportunity to look to changing your existing shopping habits by buying preloved, making sustainable fashion choices that not only help the planet, but help to raise vital, much needed funds for worthwhile good causes.
Acorns is a charity retail arm that seeks to shatter all the long held preconceptions of shopping preloved. It has beautifully bright stores that are a treasure trove of bargain fashion, both high street, designer and vintage. Prices are affordable even though many of the items have never been worn and still have their original price tags to show what a bargain you are getting. Accessories and shoes mean that you may actually be able to find a complete outfit for any occasion, whilst there are also books, toys and bric-a-brac to also catch the eye. With Acorns you can get the thrill of buying something new, whilst knowing that your money is going to a brilliant cause, and you are also preventing more items going into landfill. It truly is a win-win situation.
Acorns say:-
In making the shift to thoughtful thrifting, shoppers will be helping us to continue our vital
care for children with life limiting or life threatening conditions and support their families.
They continue:-
It’s an exciting time for sustainable fashion and where better than your local Acorns
shop. This is a fantastic opportunity to look good, do good and feel good at Acorns.
I was seriously impressed with the range of products on display at the Barnt Green store. Labels like Rusell and Bromley, Oliver Bonas, Michael Kors, Mint Velvet and John Lewis Weekend were well represented, as was vintage M&S St Michael label, in the guise of a beautiful pure silk blouse. There were some fabulous Winter coats if you are planning ahead to cooler days, and the jewellery selection was brilliant, with authentic 1980’s earrings and 1950’s paste brooches available for less than £5.
Acorns has more than 40 stores across the West Midlands, and you can support their good work by visiting one of their shops and adding it to your must visit shopping destinations, and also by donating your good quality, unwanted clothing and accessories. This will ensure that their good work continues, through Sustainable Fashion Week, and well beyond.
