Sunday night we see the glossiest, most glamorous night of the year in television. Yes, it is the Bafta television awards, and this year the ceremony has been sponsored by House of Fraser. In honour of the ceremony, this post is dedicated to some of the best in red carpet dressing, with a focus on some of the best looks in menswear.
It is hard for men to shine on the red carpet when we are faced with a series of show stopping looks from the ladies. But it has to be said, a sharp suit or tuxedo can make a real impact, especially when worn by a celebrity better known for more casual styling. House of Fraser will be dressing nominees, so we are sure to see some really suave looks on the night.
Men on the red carpet
My favourite red carpet dresser is gorgeous George himself. Mr Clooney is never less than perfect, the epitome of an old school matinee idol. He sticks to traditional red carpet formal dressing, but it works and he often outshines every other man in the vicinity.
Red Carpet – George Clooney Style
Get the George Look
Of course, for us mere mortals, walking a red carpet is not something that we have that much opportunity to do. But formal pieces can be added to more casual looks to smarten them up, either for an evening out at the theatre or a restaurant, even just a trip to the pub.
We were sent a formal shirt from House of Fraser’s extensive range with the objective of using the piece to add finesse to a casual outfit. We chose a fabulous black shirt from the Ted Baker collection. This has a tapered back and is a semi fitted style, with a particularly lovely pattern on the lining. The shirt is classic fit, single cuff style and is most definitely a formal shirt, one which would look fabulous worn under a suit, or with a waistcoat over the top. So how would it look with smart jeans – smart enough for a night at the theatre maybe?
I think that this shirt works really well for a smart, but not overly formal look. The regular collar can be left open to add a more casual feel, but you know that this would be great with a tie too. Jeans and desert boots keep the mood casual, but the versatility of this shirt means you could add formal trousers and shoes and this would also work.
The Bafta television awards take place on Sunday 10th May. It will be interesting to see the looks on display.
