Autumn: The Season Of The Shacket

Autumn is traditionally the season of fashion transition. We are still having some gloriously sunny days even as we move to late September, but the evenings are chillier, the rain comes down, and you can feel the warm days moving to an end. This means that our wardrobes are starting to change, layering is on the agenda, and even though we are still wearing some of summer clothes, we are adding chunky knits and boots into the mix. Oh, and shackets, we are most definitely adding shackets.

The Rise of the Shacket

The shacket is a hybrid, a classic mix of a shirt and a jacket. It is decidedly retro in style, bringing to mind the grungy, lumberjack shirts of the early 90s. The shacket is a style that suits all ages and works well with a range of looks, whether it is worn with jeans or leather style leggings, or worn over black dresses the way I have styled mine below. Shackets can also work with denim shorts, either as a cover up after a day at a festival or the beach, or a way of moving your shorts into Autumn wear when wore layered over tights. The shacket had a real moment last Autumn/Winter becoming a popular addition to most wardrobes, and now as we hit Autumn once again, they are back, in both the shorter styles, and the longer ones that look more like a coat.

Femme Luxe Shackets

Femme Luxe is always a brilliant place to look for affordable, fashion led pieces, and they currently have a brilliant collection of shackets that come in a range of sizes right up to XL. I have worn their shackets in both size large (you can find that review here ) and XL, which is what I’m wearing in this review. I wear size 16 on top, so the large gives me a slightly more fitted look, but this is all about your personal preference.

Colour Choice

Shackets pretty much work in any colour and pattern, but the classic design is the checked pattern. Femme Luxe has a fab range which varies from classic neutral shades and black and white, to really pretty pastel checks, pinks and lilacs for example, which give a girly twist on what is quite a masculine look and style. My current shacket is the navy check, which I think is a great shade for Autumn/Winter.

Styling Your Shacket

The shacket I am wearing from Femme Luxe is gorgeously soft and cosy. The fastenings are metal popper buttons and these are not only on the front of the shacket, but also on the cuffs, meaning you can wear this with the sleeves rolled up to create another, casual look. The fleecy lining means that this will be really warm come Winter, possibly with a waterproof layered over the top of it, whilst the two breast pockets are perfect for your mobile phone and money on those days when you aren’t carrying a bag.

I wore my shacket over a black t-shirt dress from Simply Be, and a pair of desert boots that I got from Vinted (actually kids ones from New Look, a bonus of having small feet.) I think it would also work over white dresses, for instance the tub and knit style ones that are another trend this Autumn.

Competition Time

I have one shacket from Femme Luxe to give away to one lucky Fashion-mommy.com reader. The shacket is the pink one featured below and is size large, which would fit up to a small size 16.

This competition is open to UK readers only.
