Bargain Hunters flock to NEWLIFE

Fashionistas and bargainistas alike flocked to Bridgtown on Saturday and Sunday for the amazing £1 NEWLIFE sale.  The charity, which raises much-needed funds for disabled children, were hosting the two-day event in their temporary warehouse, and hundreds flocked to pick up the bargains and support a worthwhile cause. The first 100 people through the doors also got themselves a free pair of jeans.

The event started at 10am on Saturday, with over 300 people coming through the doors in the first hour. The event was so busy that fashion-mommy had to wait outside for 15 minutes because it was just too congested inside the warehouse.  But it was definitely worth the wait, once inside, you were faced with boxes and boxes of top quality, High street named clothing and accessories, for men, women and children.  Every High street store was represented, many had contributed to the large donation of jeans that had inspired the event.

The queues were enormous, but totally good-natured, with many people picking up more bargains whilst waiting in the queue. I chatted to the ladies surrounding me, who were picking up early Christmas presents from the vast selection of children’s clothes.  I picked up 40 items for £40, and was quite frankly, over the moon. Even hubby got some bargains, selecting long cargo shorts, jeans and England Polo shirts, all at just £1.

Their were no carrier bags, making the event ecologically sound. Hessian bags were on sale at, yes, you’ve guessed it, £1, and most people were buying these as they went through the door in order to use them as a shopping bag as their arms became laden down with bargains.

Newlife deserve to be applauded for providing such a budget friendly shopping experience in these troubled times, but there was a serious, important reason behind the event. Newlife chief executive Sheila Brown says “…We currently have 179 children waiting for equipment and need to raise £457,958 so this £1 sale will help them and spread a little cheer in gloomy financial times for hard-pressed families. The money raised will provide vital equipment for disabled children and fund research into child health.”

If you attended the sale on Saturday and Sunday, well done. You got yourself a whole heap of bargains whilst supporting a good cause. If you didn’t attend, WHERE WERE YOU?
