Kate visits Oxford wearing Orla Kiely

The Duchess of Cambridge showed her fun side when she visited Oxford as part of The Art Project. She wore a gorgeous winter coat dress with a Dove Print by Irish designer Orla Kiely..,and promptly sparked yet another sell out. She also again showed her thrifty side by wearing another dress purchased at a sale price.

The Birdie wool Jacquard shirt dress in Walnut has proved to be an instant sell-out, both in the walnut shade that Kate wore, and also in the turquoise shade. In fact, all the dresses that feature this print have now sold out, another sign of the positive effect Kate holds over fashion at the present time.

I love this quirky choice for Kate. Orla Kiely is known for her unusual repeating prints, birds, cars, apples etc. This dress has a sort of seventies wallpaper feel, but in a good way. It is young, and really fun, and the fit and flare 1950s shape is perfect for Kate.

Bird prints are huge at the moment, you can find them in almost every High Street and internet fashion range. Kate’s dress is from the A/W collection, but this look is still everywhere for Spring.

Caggie Dunlop – A winter masterclass

Some girls just know how to dress for the really cold weather. I can’t claim to be one of them. I don’t really like wearing trousers all that much, always feel overly warm in a winter coat, and I keep loosing gloves. Which is why sometimes I require a masterclass in the art of Winter dressing. Watching The Made in Chelsea Christmas special a few days ago, I got one from Caggie Dunlop.

Yes, the pouting one seems to have winter dressing down to a tee! She can do dressed down in utility style jackets and jeans, and dressed up in the most amazing winter cashmere cape (courtesy of Hayley Menzies!)  I’ve seen this side of Narnia. She knows how to rock a hat without looking like a teapot under a cosy, or some sort of Artful Dodger. And she has made a snug furry coat a part of her daytime and evening wardrobe, a great way to make your wardrobe work for you, especially if you own a Cossack style fur hat for that Dr Zhivago look.

So, onto the clothes. Caggie has been spotted wearing the gorgeous fur coat both in episodes of Made in Chelsea, and out and about in London. This is a look that is easy to replicate, fur coats are  everywhere on the High Street, and vintage ones can be picked up cheaply in charity shops (I paid just £5 for mine).

Caggie also wore the exquisite cashmere hooded cape during the Christmas Finland trip. This is from Hayley Menzies and is currently available in the January sale for £224, a saving of £96. This is a beautiful luxury buy, with more than a touch of fairy princess about it. Caggie is not the first of the Made in Chelsea girls to be spotted wearing Hayley Menzies goodies,Binky has also been spotted wearing a monochrome shawl from the same company.

As well as fur, Caggie went for a more boyish look when she wore a parka style jacket at the Natural History Museum’s ice rink. Again, this is a very popular look at the moment, with parka’s being warm, practical and waterproof. They also add a touch of ‘Modrophenia’ cool to any outfit.

If you loved Caggie’s fur hat, how about this very similar one from Firetrap at USC. I think this is a really close match.

The final scene in the Made in Chelsea Christmas special was a special party for all the gang, featuring fake snow and a pretty awful version of ‘The 12 days of Christmas’. Caggie wore a great slouch front jumpsuit from one of her favourite retailers, Gorgeous Couture. Caggie wore a black version, which I can’t find an image of, but the suit is still available in black, blush and Khaki, and is currently reduced to £174.

Pippa and Kate end 2011 in Style.

Those lovely Middleton ladies ended the year on a style high, showing that the cold weather is no excuse to let up on the fashion front. A new picture of Kate showed her looking dressed down in a stylish shearling style jacket from LK Bennett along with a pair of Wellington boots that matched those worn by her brother-in-law Prince Harry. The jacket, the Darwin, is now sold out completely online, in both expresso brown and black shades.

Kate was also wearing her much loved Temperley honeycomb jumper, and a rather stylish jaunty hat. You can  steal Kate’s hat style for just £4 with this cute wool felt trilby from New Look.

For Kate fans still in need of a great winter coat, the gorgeous Ami red number that she wore when she visited Denmark has now been reduced in the January sales (now £245). This is a seriously chic full length coat that has a classic style meaning years of wear.  Remember, the darker the day, the brighter the coat needed!

Pippa has shown a fabulous array of ‘Autumn/winter looks through the season so far.  Just before Christmas she was photographed wearing a utility/duffle style coat from Fay. This moss green coat with buckle style fastenings doesn’t  come cheap (£859),but it is an investment piece that looks great with both jeans, or over a shift dress. However, you can get a similar look from New Look for just £12.

I totally adore Pippa’s Loewe Amazona bag, a real classic from the Spanish luxury brand, but I think I prefer this stunning shade with a touch of red. This is a tru statement piece, but at £1,295, a girl can only dream…

My favourite Pippa look of recent times is one that comes right from the High Street. The Reiss Eden charcoal belted trenchcoat has all the traditions of a classic Burberry trench, but in a glorious silvery shade. You can get it now in the sale for £171.

I am so looking forward to seeing what looks both ladies present us with this New Year.
