Friday Fashion – What’s New In Stores

If you are now truly sick and tired of trawling the sales and want to see something new, then this post is just the medicine you need. We are now at my favourite point of the sales, where discounts are up to 70% off, but this can also mean lots of rails of damaged clothing, in no particular order, where mess is the order of the day, and this is certainly not for everyone.

But we are now starting to see some new season pieces in store, along with new pieces that are still perfect for the cold Wintry weather we will have for at least another six weeks or so. Today I am concentrating on a few brands. First is Topshop. I was at an event in the Birmingham Bullring store last night and fell in love with the bright and beautiful new knits that would frankly brighten the dull, foggy days we seem to be stuck with at the moment. Some of the jumpers have a hint of the knitting my nan used to do when I was a child, and this only makes me love them more.

Next is a definite pointer to Spring with the gorgeous Chi Chi London Delicate Dream collection. This is a gorgeous range that incorporates lace, florals and springlike pastels, and is sure to be a celebrity favourite so get in there first.

Speaking of celebrity, I have a great get the look of Meghan Markle’s engagement outfit from New Look, and the style picks from Next from Big Brother’s Emma Willis, who has curated a collection called Emma Loves. It is safe to say that this Emma loves it too.

Happy Shopping!

Partywear From Wallis

The dark nights can almost be used as an extra excuse to sparkle and shine (have to get the Nativity pun in there as I watched it last night!). Winter is almost here and it is dark and cold by 5/30pm, but after dark is the perfect time to break out the high octane glamour. It’s time to party!

Wallis is always a good destination if you are looking for a party outfit, and this season they have some great dresses that could earn their keep in your wardrobe all through party season and beyond. Coco Chanel would be pleased that her chic ‘Little black dress’ is well represented, remaining the epitome of style and elegance almost 90 years since Coco decided that it was fit for so much more than formal mourning dress. The presence of so many dresses with sleeves will also be music to this ears of those that hate their upper arms due to real or imaginary bingo wings.

But if you wear every colour except for black, your wardrobe needs are covered too. Navy, purple, red and berry shades all add colour to your ‘sparkle and shine’ (yes, that phase again), and there are also elements of Christmas’s favourite fabric, velvet, in my personal favourite gown, the purple velvet puffed sleeve shift dress.

Wallis is great in that there are a good selection of dresses in the petite selection, as well as dresses of midi, mini and maxi lengths, giving you the choice that suits your style and body shape.

If you want to add your sparkle and shine (last time I promise) to your daytime wardrobe, then a glittery knit, teamed with skinny or boyfriend jeans, is a great way to become a queen of daytime sparkle. The pink and pearl effect jumper is absolutely gorgeous, in a 1950s vintage kind of way – I love it!

A Dark Fairytale at Chi Chi London

Chi Chi London is always a great place to find fairytale dresses. Beautiful pastel colours, full 1950s style skirts, acres of lace and tulle, Chi Chi has dresses that you only dream of. But this season, it is turning to the dark side of the fairy story, just in time for Halloween. These are dresses and looks that are gothic, glamorous and dramatic.

Chi Chi describes the Dark Fairytale collection as bringing

‘…new edge to the classic Chi Chi look via daring cuts, darker shades and edgy accessories…’

All the usual Chi Chi elements of elegance and femininity are still there, the full skirts, the lace and ribbons, but these dresses have a more dangerous edge, you can imagine them being worn by the bad girl from the Fairy Story, they are more Wicked Queen (definitely channeling Angelina as Maleficent) than Snow White, and all the better for it.

Not all the dresses are black. The Leticia dress is in mink and brings to mind the dishevelled Kinder Whore looks of Courtney Love, Amanda De Cadenet and Babes in Toyland in the early 1990s. Just add a plastic tiara and you are ready to go.

The collection also shows that Bardot styles show no sign of going away, as with the design of the exquisite Octavia and Maryam dresses. The Maryam, in particular, is so on trend for Autumn 2017 as it is in this season’s red shade, and will serve you well at parties right into the festive season, especially when teamed with the Chi Chi Manda heels.
