Mother Of The Bride Celebrity Inspiration

When it comes to style, there is one person who has a truly thankless task when it comes to dressing for a wedding. This person is not the bride, who has the enviable task of trying on beautiful dress after beautiful dress, knowing that eventually she will find ‘the one’ – the ultimate dress of her dreams. No, the lady with the rather more difficult task is the Mother of the bride.

Why you may ask, is this task so difficult? Well, think about it. It is your beloved child’s wedding so you absolutely want to look your very best, but even though it is very much your day too, you don’t want to overshadow, or clash with the bride. Rather you want to be able to compliment and maybe even co-ordinate with the chosen colour scheme, whilst still maintaining your own fashion style and personality. You will also be wearing the outfit for a good many hours, so you want to be comfortable as well as stylish, and want the outfit to be something that can carry you from day to night, from the formality of the service, to the fun of the reception.

Compton House of Fashion  has a  great range of mother of the bride outfits, including designer styles from the likes of Mon Cherie, Roland Joye and Ian Stuart. The ranges come in a spectrum of colours and styles that should allow a stylish mother of the bride (or groom for that matter) to be able to blend beautifully into the wedding day, adding to the stylish ambience of the day.

If you have a son or daughter who is getting married this year, you could take some inspiration from some stylish celebrity mother’s of the bride, and their style choices, along with some suggestions from the current season at Compton House of Fashion.

White is no longer a faux pas

Kris Jenner and Tina Knowles.

Once upon a time, wearing white was considered a real faux pas at a wedding unless you were the one actually getting married. But these days it is not an issue if the bride has decided on a white colour scheme for the bridal party. The co-ordination can create a stunning tableau for the wedding photographs and can be a stark and stylish choice. Consider Kris Jenner, the Kardashian matriarch who wore white at both of Kim’s weddings, or the stunning look worn by Tina Knowles when Solange wed.

White is alright

Echo a feature of the bridal look

Susan Sarandon.

I love the dress that  actress Susan Sarandon chose for her daughter’s wedding. Rather than co-ordinating with the brides dress in terms of colour, she echoed the beautiful lace neckline of her daughters gown. I loved the colour of the gown, and this was a subtle and elegant way to compliment the bridal look.

Colour is good too

Mary Steenburgen.

There has been a definite trend towards pastels and neutrals for Mother of the Brides in recent times, but this is not the law, and bright primary colours can look stunning too. Actress Mary Steenburgen shows this to vibrant effect with her beautiful deep blue dress that would totally stand out against a sea of nude and neutral shades.

Elegance is the key

Carole Middleton.

A lady who has proved to be a Queen when it comes to Mother of the Bride dressing is Carole Middleton. The mother of the Duchess of Cambridge and Pippa Middleton has had plenty of experience in recent years and has shown that simple elegance is often the best way to choose your outfit.

Carole has opted for frock coat styles that are perfect for the unpredictable British weather, and keeps the accessories to a minimum, with a simple style often teamed with a show stopping hat. The frock coat enables you to wear a shift dress underneath – the answer to what to wear for the reception because with the addition of some strappy sandals and a statement necklace, this outfit turns from formal to fun.

All outfits featured come from the Mother of the Bride selection at Compton House of Fashion.

Pippa Middleton Gets Married

She became world famous at her big sister’s wedding, but today Pippa Middleton showed that she could be an incredibly beautiful bride in her own right when she married James Matthews in a lovely ceremony in St Mark’s Church in Englefield.

Wearing a stunning lace gown, which reputedly cost £40,000 and was designed by Giles Deacon, Pippa looked radiant, and, in a reverse of the royal wedding, she was looked after by big sister Kate, who shepherded the little bridesmaids and paige boys, which included Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Pippa rose to prominence as the perfect maid of honour at the royal wedding of William and Kate, and has proved to be something of a style icon since, always managing to look chic at a range of occasions.  Her wedding dress was beautiful and elegant, with a full skirt, high neckline and lattice style lace work.  Her chic updo also added to the effortless beauty of the whole look.

Here are some images from a very stylish country wedding.

BAFTA 2017 – Fave Looks

The most important night in British film is always a good place to look when it comes to glamorous Hollywood Stars and the best of British truly shining on the red carpet. I am talking about the Bafta’s of course, aka the British Academy Awards, and this year has proved to be a bit of a vintage one in terms of fashion, with some really lovely looks including a suitably regal one from the Duchess of Cambridge in Alexander McQueen.

This years awards showcased a range of beautiful looks in a range of colours and styles.  There were strapless styles, halter necks as showcased by Nicole Kidman in Armani Prive and a range of sleeve lengths, with Michelle Williams opting for a 1960s style shift from Louis Vuitton (does anyone else think she looks more and more like Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby? Or is it just me?). Naomie Harris was beautifully romantic in Gucci ruffles and frills, whilst best supporting actress winner Viola Davis was bringing a beautiful touch of spring in her striped Jenny Packham dress which just showcased her incredible curves. (Don’t mind admitting I have terrible boob envy when it comes to Viola).

When it comes to taking a  fashion risk you know that you can rely on Emma Stone, a real Hollywood fashionista. This time her risk totally paid off. I LOVED her beautiful midi dress from Chanel that she wore over the top of a pair of peg trousers. The sparkle of the outfit and the otherwise minimal styling was so fresh and beautiful. I really can’t wait to see what she wears when she picks up her Oscar (we all know it’s going to happen!).

There are several other looks, all beautiful, that I really loved tonight. What was your favourite from the British Oscars?
