Brilliant Billionaire Boy Is A Real Treat

Billionaire Boy is one of the most beloved stories from the legend that is David Walliams. The story of the super rich but unhappy 12 year old Joe Spud and his quest to be a normal boy with at least one true friend is almost a modern day morality tale and a rags to riches story in reserve. The fabulous stage musical opened at The Wolverhampton Grand Theatre last night and delighted an audience of parents and children. Joe Spud is rich, a billionaire boy in fact. He has everything a child could want, everything that is, except the attention of his dad and a true friend who likes him for…

Calling Planet Earth At The Alexandra Theatre

Last night Birmingham was dragged back to the early electronic 80s by a brilliant new show that has been taking the Country by storm. Calling Planet Earth is a live music show that features all the greatest songs of the New Romantic/Electronic era performed by a full band and singers Michael King, Jay Ashton and Lindsay Goodhand. I was there as a guest of SeatPlan, who can find you the very best seats for all sorts of theatre performances. The vocals and performances are all exceptional, and those classic songs are still capable of having the whole room on its feet as we are transported back to the days of…

We Will Rock You Rocks Wolverhampton

Before you read this review I have to let you into a secret. I don’t really like the music of Queen. I know, I know, that is almost sacrilegious, particularly as my mom is probably the World’s biggest Queen fan. So last night, as I attended the opening night of the Queen/Ben Elton musical at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, I was filled with trepidation. But I have to say that the fear was unfounded. We Will Rock You is a big, bombastic, exhilarating musical journey through a dystopian world where live music is no more. The voices are incredible, the sets are a visual treat, and even the songs won…

The Play That Goes Wrong – Hilarious From Start To Finish

British Comedy has a long tradition of slapstick and farce. From Jeeves and Wooster, to Monty Python, from Benny Hill to The Young Ones, British Comedy always has the ability to send itself up, to be slightly anarchic and to understand that, no matter what goes wrong, the show must go on. That tradition is now in the safe hands of Mischief Theatre and their comic creation, The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, in the side splittingly funny ‘The Play that goes wrong’ which had its opening night at The Alex, Birmingham last night. ‘The Play that goes wrong’ is exactly what it says on the label. The Cornley Polytechnic Drama…

Catch Me If You Can – One Twist After Another

Catch Me If You Can opened at Birmingham’s Alexandra Theatre last night and this Hitchcockian thriller provided twists and turns galore. Based on the french play ‘Trap For A Lonely Man’ it appears at first glance to be a straightforward missing person story, but a twist part way through the first half totally turns this on its head, leaving your thought processes dazed and confused as you have to decide who you can trust is actually telling the truth. The truth is you can trust no-one and trust nothing, but you can certainly enjoy the ride. Without giving too much away, the play starts with the disappearance of a newlywed…
