Chelsea Girl returns.

One  of my overwhelming memories of being a very young girl was Saturday shopping with my mom in West Bromwich. I remember John Menzies had a great toy department, and that my mom loved a shop called ‘Lady at Lord John’, which just sounded such a cool name. But mainly I remember Chelsea Girl. Situated in the Queens Square, which also had the amazing floor to ceiling fountains, this shop was the most amazing place I had ever been to, still psychedelic looking, with a sign resembling a rainbow,it was a treasure trove to a little girl who already loved fashion.

Flash forward to the 1980s, and groovy Chelsea girl, with its Andy Warhol connotations, became the altogether safer River Island. Still a haven for fab clothing, but without  the Biba style mystique it had held in the past.

But now Chelsea Girl is back. River Island are launching a Chelsea Girl capsule collection on March 24th that celebrates the style and heritage of the original store. This collection has a 1970s feel that evokes memories of the Chelsea Girl heyday, with Ossie Clark style prints, maxi dresses, cropped print t-shirts with the Chelsea Girl logo on the front, and acres of 1970s style denim.

Of course, this is the perfect season to  celebrate 1970s heritage, with cool 70s trends everywhere in fashion. And this is such a perfect, vintage style collection that it is sure to be an instant sell-out, even by girls too young to remember the demise of the original name in 1988.
