Dress Review – The Tove cotton dress from Gudrun Sjoden

Continuing with today’s rather dressy theme, this blog post is dedicated to reviewing a rather beautiful dress from one of my favourite brands, Gudrun Sjoden. It is just a shame that as I write this, the weather has turned decidedly cold and wet, but the Tove dress is one that brings a lovely touch of Summer to your wardrobe, but can luckily look just as good worn with opaque tights and a chunky cardigan.

The Tove dress is one of my favourites from the current ‘Women in Art’ collection. In the publicity campaign, this was styled as a mismatch of colours and patterns, a style which was typically Gudrun. But I wanted to style it in a more conservative way, whilst still keeping the essence of colour that makes Gudrun Sjoden so unique.

This is a lovely summer dress. It is actually a little more fitted on me than on the model, perfect as I am not the World’s biggest fan of baggy clothing. (I am wearing size large.)  The muted shade of blue that makes up the background of the dress is perfect foil for the variety of colours of the flowers, meaning you can team lots of different colours with this dress in terms of accessories.  The dress buttons all the way down the back – but this is easy to put on over the head – I didn’t undo any of the buttons.

One of the things I really loved about the dress was the pockets. I totally love dresses that have pockets – so useful when you have kids who are constantly handing things over to you (tissues, sweets, toy cars…need I go on?). The pockets give the dress an a-line, 1950s style shape that is so feminine. I also really like the cotton used – thin, but not see-through – a problem that can often occur in cotton dresses.

DSCN6397I teamed the dress with bright coloured items – a sunshine yellow cashmere cardigan from M&S, and hot pink suede shoes from Clarks. However, the images show that the day was extremely windy – hence looking like I was stuck in a wind tunnel when the photographs were taken!

A lovely dress to add to your summer wardrobe – the Tove is currently available in a Gudrun Sjoden Promotion.

Many thanks to Gudrun Sjoden and Rachel Cornick at Varg for sending the dress for review.
