Exploring The Little Black Dress With Femme Luxe

Now that nightlife has started to finally open up again, and people are getting ‘outout’ (copyright Mickey Flannagan), we have to think about our glam evening wardrobe again. Months of living in our leisure wear and jeans means that we now take our comfort for granted, but comfort doesn’t really cut it when you’re on a date, or eating in a fancy restaurant, or even taking a trip to the theatre, or the ballet, or the opera. No, for those occasions, we need to turn back to Coco Chanel, and the style classic that is the little black dress.

A little black dress can take many forms, but it is always in fashion. It is chic and elegant at all ages, and can work whatever the style, from a simple shift dress, to a prom style, or a slinky maxi dress. For many women, it is their go-to for formal occasions, and certainly for evening occasions, as it works with every accessory, every colour scheme, every shape and size.

Femme Luxe is well known for its leisure wear and bodycon styles, but it also has some glamorous looks that are perfect for a stylish night out. The Savannah Black One Shoulder Ruched Slinky Midi Dress may well be the perfect example of a little black dress. It is a stretchy but slinky dress, one that is figure hugging, but also, thanks to the ruching detail, and the thickness of the fabric, one that is very forgiving.

It is a midi dress which makes it perfect if you hate your knees (for many people a number one body hate), and it has long sleeves, which makes it a dress that would work well know at the end of British Summer, but means it will also work well in Winter as the ultimate Christmas party dress. The dress has a tie detail at the waist which can be tied either at the front as a further detailing, or tied at the back to get more of an illusion of a waistband if this is a problem area for you.

The ruching on the side is very flattering and looks really good on a curvier frame, but could also look good if you are trying to give the illusion of curves. The style is very Studio 54/Halston, a real 70’s high glamour disco look of the style loved by the likes of Bianca Jagger and Liza Minnelli and one that is timeless and ageless.

How to style this?

The beauty of a little black dress is that you can style and accessorise it with pretty much anything you chose. You can add animal print, metallics, bright primary colours or even just stick to classic black heels or strappy sandals.

I teamed my dress with Biba animal print high heels for a splash of fun, and a vintage art deco diamante brooch that I picked up in Ironbridge for just a few pounds. I also added silver hoop earrings to keep the Studio 54 theme going, and a gold Becksondergaard cross body bag which also ties in with the disco theme and leaves your hands free for drinks.
