Each new fashion season brings a whole range of new styles and new trends to tap into, but whilst, in the past, the idea of giving your wardrobe a complete overhaul each season was one to aspire for, these days, we are far more frugal, thrifty and (trying to be) more sustainable. Our wardrobes now have to earn their keep, we are more likely to buy classic pieces that last for a much longer period of time, and rather than buying into trends wholesale, we may well just look at tapping into them.
Accessories are a great way to not only tap into new trends, but to give your wardrobe a new lease of life. A detachable collar can change the look of a jumper or t-shirt and make it appear brand new, chunky jewellery in gold tone can make your simple black t-shirt dress suddenly look chic and ready for an evening wear, whilst bright coloured bags and shoes can help you tap into trends without breaking the bank.
My personal high street fave H&M is not only brilliant for affordable fashion pieces, but also has a formidable range of accessories each season. This Summer we are seeing mustard as a great, gorgeous colour choice, brilliant because it also works so well with Autumn/Winter shades. Pearls, the birthstone for June, are in abundance in terms of both jewellery and hair accessories, as are shells, which maybe tie in with our post lockdown wanderlust.
Emily in Paris seems to be having a moment, with Chanel styled quilted bags and the ubiquitous berets in soft shades all echoing the style of Lily Collins in the Netflix hit series. And there are also knots and rope styles when it comes to footwear, with the beige knotted sliders not only looking great, but also being comfortable even if you are not spending a day around the pool.
Here are some of the gorgeous pieces currently on sale in H&M Birmingham.
