Fashion Focus: H&M New Season

My current favourite shop on the High Street is H&M (closely followed by Oliver Bonas, Monsoon and TK Maxx). I love the fact that their ranges are ultra wearable and yet fashion forward, and that most of the styles are also affordable fashion. Although they have a great online offering, I still love going into an actual shop and seeing stuff in the flesh, so last week I took a trip to the New Street branch in Birmingham, and picked out some of my favourite current picks.

Romance

White cotton, high necks, frills and flounces. There are some pieces that can only be described as romantic in the current collections, drawing on influences like Laura Ashley 1970’s milkmaids, the Pre Raphaelites and Picnic at Hanging Rock. I love the crisp white blouses that would look perfect with black skinny jeans and a heeled boot with a pointed toe.

Coats

It is definitely coat weather, and I love the sheer range of styles that H&M has this Autumn/Winter. There are traditional, single breasted style in Prince of Wales style check, and more casual shacket styles which work with everything. And then, of course, we have the classic mac that is not only giving Emily in Paris vibes, but will be something you will wear forever.

Colour and Print

It seems that when it comes to colour and print, 2020 is the year when anything goes. Classic animal prints like leopard and zebra are now neutrals in most wardrobes, but I love the use of sunshine yellow as the days grow darker. The red dress is a showstopper for sure, but could easily be dressed down, or is the perfect colour for a Christmas day dress, while I love the idea of teaming the Prince of Wales checked peg trousers with the slouchy yellow polo neck jumper.

Statement Sleeves

Another statement that shows no sign of going away is the one we make with our sleeves. The animal print top shown above is all about those puffed oversized short sleeves, but they are not just limited to tops, they work on knitwear too.

T-Shirts

Wear your cool t-shirt with a printed t-shirt for a Carrie Bradshaw vibe. How cute is the long sleeved pink number below.

Accessories

If you seem to only wear jeans at the moment, put your effort into upping your accessories game. Pearls and chains mixed together, oversized, chandelier earrings, and Art Deco styles that will look just as good with jeans and a white tee, or a crew neck jumper, as they would with your little black dress. Slingback shoes are also another style that works well with jeans, especially if you are still showing a little bit of ankle.
