Femme Luxe: In Favour Of Jumpsuits

Generally, I’m on the same page when it comes to fashion trends, unless its particularly short (I’m far too old), or particularly garish, I’ll give it a go. If it then doesn’t suit, well at least I tried. That has tended to be my fashion mantra throughout my life, but one thing I have never really been able to get on board with is jumpsuits. I’m never sure whether they should be called straight jackets as they seem to truss you up, make it difficult to put on and then take off, and let’s not even talk about when you need the toilet. The day you wear a jumpsuit is certainly not a day to be drinking lots of water.

But I’m never to afraid to admit that I am wrong, and it seems that, like men, there’s a jumpsuit out there for everyone, and I’ve found the one I love from Femme Luxe. Yes, I know it’s a brand that usually better known for women’s loungewear sets, and slinky evening dresses, but Femme Luxe also has a great range of jumpsuits in many different colours and different styles.

The Evelyn belted one shoulder jumpsuit could’ve been worn to dance the night away at Studio 54 during the late 1970s, it is so Bianca Jagger/Halston fantastic. This is the 70’s jumpsuit as you would imagine it – sleek, with a streamlined body that goes into a wide (read flared ) leg, with that one shoulder/sleeved look. This comes in a range of colours, but black is the classic, and again keeps that disco era vibe going. It feels like such a sexy look, with just that flash of flesh on display, and, as it is black, it is super easy to accessorise.

I find the leg is perfect for me at 5ft 7, so if you are on the shorter side, you may find that you need to add a heeled shoe so you are not sweeping the ground as you walk. The jumpsuit is pretty easy to get on too – the fabric is thicker than you might expect, which is great for avoiding visible pantie line and being see thru, but it still has some stretch in it which allows it to be comfortable, and makes putting it on easy enough. The tie belt at the waist is a nice detail, and could be replaced for a different belt – for instance a coloured or metallic belt to add interest, or a stretch elastic belt to add to the 1970’s look.

As I mentioned before, this is very easy to dress up and accessorise. Black works with most colours, I chose a gold Diana shoe from Dune that I got from Vinted, and another Vinted find, my Kurt Geiger Kensington bag. I also added a Butler and Wilson brooch rather than a necklace, but a diamante choker would also work well, as would a long silver chain. You could even throw a jumper over this to move it from day to evening wear, perfect if you happen to be wearing it when you have to do the walk of shame (if you know, you know).
