Fun And Pastimes For Dark Winter Nights
As the nights draw in and the weather turns colder and colder, we may find ourselves spending more time indoors, especially when it comes to the evenings. Summer is a distant memory and suddenly it is dark at 5pm. Although we often talk about cosy nights in front of the TV, the truth is that Winter lasts a long time and it can get rather boring. So, with that in mind, I have put together a few activities that can make evenings a bit more enjoyable and hopefully make Spring appear just that bit sooner.
Board Games
In recent years retro style board games have made a comeback and now they are once again a popular activity for Winter nights, especially for families. Monopoly, Cluedo and Trivial Pursuits are all great, particularly if you have a large group to keep occupied. In addition, you can now get updated and specialised versions of all your favourite board games – one of my boy Joe’s favourite Christmas presents of recent years has been a version of Monopoly that is based around West Bromwich Albion Football Club – you buy players rather than properties. Great fun and very competitive.
Play Bingo
Online bingo and games have become big business for those who enjoy the thrill of trying to win a little cash without actually leaving their homes. There are so many games out there that you can be playing, but if you want to find the best deals, free plays, games that give you a deposit to start playing with, then you are best to look at something like boomtownbingo which gives all this information along with site reviews.
Movie Night
Even though I said that too many nights in front of the TV can make Winter boring, a movie night is a completely different proposition. The lead up to Christmas is the perfect time to dig out all those classic Christmas movies, from ‘It’s a wonderful life’ to ‘Home Alone’. You may be able to download the films you need from Sky Movies, who have a dedicated Christmas Chanel all through November and December. Alternately, if you love the cheesiness of B movies, Channel 5 is the home of bad but brilliant made for TV movies – think ‘Mrs Miracle’ and ‘Chasing Christmas’. Just add popcorn and a glass of mulled wine for the loveliest of evenings that will give you a warm glow.
A little Craft time
Even if you are not the most experienced crafter, Winter is a great time of the year to do a little cutting and sticking with your youngsters. Poundland has a great selection of simple Christmas craft activities that will while away those dark nights after school has ended.
