Glamour and heritage from Scotsburn Croft

I sometimes respond to Tweets looking for bloggers to review items. It’s a great way to get in touch and to discover a new brand that may not have been on your horizon before. I recently tweeted a company called Scotsburn Croft, and I can honestly say I have fallen in love with the craftmanship and heritage of their work. This is one company you must check out if you love your accessories to have class.

Scotsburn Croft was founded in the Scottish Highlands by the seriously talented Clare Ferguson. She took her inspiration from growing up in the Highlands of Scotland, an area full of beautiful landscapes, real family and community values and people not “feert of a bit of hard graft”. She used the long ago tradition of crafts people who worked in small ‘crofts’ to create a range of fashion accessories, home interior pieces and ceramics that are all handmade and have their inspiration in the colours, the tweeds and plaids that are uniquely Scottish. What this gives you is something that is steeped in heritage and is highly unusual, but also very stylish and current.

I was sent the Tweed Factor bag in pink to review. The first thing you notice is the beautiful packaging that the bag arrives in  – it is gift boxed and I think this is also the perfect way to store the bag when it is not in use. The second thing you notice is that the bag is bigger than in appears on the website – this is a decent size and will easily carry purse, wallet, keys, phone, notebook, pens – basically all your everyday paraphernalia. I can also get my camera in – which is a great selling point for me.

The bag is beautiful. Woven from 100% wool, the bag is protected by Nano Sphere which helps to repel dirt and water (great if you have a child with mucky hands). The bag is a flap style clutch bag that has a front zip pocket that would be great for things like train tickets or your Oyster Card – very quick and easy access. The bag is fully lined inside, and has a second internal security pocket with a zip fastening – I use this for bits of make-up that I don’t want to leak all over the bag.

This bag is super versatile, which I hope I’ve shown in the styling. Use it as a clutch and it makes a great evening bag. I teamed it with a grey/black evening dress and heels for a night at the theatre and the bag was entirely appropriate. But add the strap and you get a bag that is fine for everyday use. It leaves your hands free for shopping and pushing a pram or pushchair or using your phone, and also makes the look a little more casual, you can imagine this worn over a chunky knit and jeans in Winter, or boho style with a kimono jacket in Spring/Summer.

If you are looking at adding something a little different to your handbag collection, I would highly recommend a look around Scotsburn Croft. You will find a real designer piece without a designer price tag.
