Golden Globes 2019 – Best Dressed
The beginning of January means the start of Awards Season, and the red carpet frocks to savour. Last night saw The 2019 Golden Globe Awards which not only sizzled with some truly beautiful dresses, but also threw up a few surprises amongst the winning categories, with the Freddie Mercury biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ proving to be the big winner on the night, rather than the much fancied ‘A Star is Born’ (I loved both, so win-win for me).
Whether the Golden Globes will be reflected at the Oscars is yet to be seen, but the Golden Globe fashion was pretty good, with lots of really lovely gowns on display. Star of the carpet was Lady Gaga, her meat dresses now just a distant memory as she turns into a true, old style movie star, complete with a lilac ballgown which may have been paying homage to Judy Garland who starred in the 1954 version of A Star is Born. Gage looked beautiful and this was one of my key looks of the night, a memorable dress that will enter Globes history.
In terms of trends, monochrome dresses featured heavily, with some black, some white and some a mix of the two. One of the best moments on the carpet was the ladies of Killing Eve frankly killing it on the carpet, with Sandra Oh also presenting and then winning a best actress award.
Bright colours always look incredible on the red carpet, and this year the ladies of Black Panther looked super gorgeous, although the film was snubbed by the awards, despite being both a critical and financial smash it.
Metallic shades are another winner on the red carpet and were used in some of the very best looks, including those worn by Saiorse Ronan and Kerri Rusell.
And finally there were the pretty, whimsical pastels, best illustrated by the romance of Emmy Rossum’s rose pink, strapless dress.
