Met Gala 2017 – The Best Looks
The 2017 Met Gala was always going to be a tough one in terms of outfits. The theme , which often seems to cause problems or is ignored altogether, was Rei Kawakubo, founder of Commes Des Garcons and Dover Street Market, an avant garde fashion legend to say the least. Many of Rei’s designs could be classed as works of art rather than wearable fashion, and this meant that this year’s celebration would either follow the theme and (if we are being honest) look a like bit crazy and ridiculous, or would ignore it completely (like the Victoria’s Secret models and the Jenner girls do every year) and then risk being safe and off theme. It was a hard decision to make.
Rihanna, a real fashion Queen, followed the theme and did look like a walking piece of art, but others who made an attempt, from Celine Dion to Tracee Ellis Ross wore looks that divided watchers due to outfits being oversized and slightly unkempt and de-constructed. (Same goes for Gigi Hadid). I applaud their bravery and vision, but it’s not really the beautiful style that I love to see – call me boring, but Pharell’s wife with no arms looked like something from ‘It’s a Knockout’, whilst the normally amazing Chrissie Teigan looked like an exploding chicken – not a good look.
Giving a nod to the theme
But there were some glorious looks on the red carpet, and so this post is dedicated to the style that I enjoyed, from Thandie Newton giving it all in 1940s styling, to Reese Witherspoon with the tiniest of nods to the theme in exquisite structured pleated sleeves. Rose Byrne was another favourite in red, which seemed to be the big colour on the night. Jennifer Lopez showed that she continues to turn back the clock, looking incredible and totally ageless in a demure blue dress, whilst Lily Rose Depp was one to watch in a mouthwatering pink shade.

Some of those dresses are erring on the ridiculous but love Reece Witherspoon’s look

Is it me or are you also getting some disney princess vibes from J-Lo and Jessica Chastain? Keeping with the Disney theme, Blake Lively reminds me of Zazu from Lion King… although she does look hot!

I agree some of the looks of those who tried to follow this year’s theme really are unfortunate! I really love Miranda Kerr and Jessica Chastain’s dresses. Gorgeous!
