New Look Inspire – True inspiration
Tube Skirts – they were such an 80s thing weren’t they. I remember seeing them everywhere as a child, ranging from cheap market efforts where women seemed unable to walk without great difficulty, to magazines filled with the likes of stunning supermodels in Azzedine Alaia.
But like many relics of fashions past, tube skirts started to make a comeback a couple of years ago, and are now a comfortable part of many wardrobes. I think the comeback is due in part to the versatility of both wear and design. Tube skirt can now be anything from a mini to a maxi, and can be worn for pretty much any occasion.
I was recently asked by New Look to review some pieces from their Inspire collection, which comes in sizes 18 to 32. Now, I was already a big fan of New Look, having lots of pieces in my wardrobe from both the inspire range and the general range, so I was more than happy with the idea of trialing some of the current pieces. The first piece I chose was a tube skirt.
The Inspire Neon Pink Aztec Print skirt is an online exclusive. It has a gorgeous print that incorporates pink, yellow. black and grey colours in a tribal style print. It is midi length, and made up of viscose and elastane for a stretchy, comfortable feel.
The first thing I want to say about this skirt is that the print is just as pretty and vibrant’ in the flesh’. The colours blend so well together, and even though they have a neon splash, they do not feel too young, as neon can often be very teenage in my view. The skirt is an easy midi length, but I pulled it higher to sit just below the knee. The stretch makes it very comfortable, it doesn’t feel tight and clingy, nor is it restrictive, sometimes an issue depending on the fabric used to make tube skirts.
This skirt is very versatile. I can imagine it being worn in Ibiza with a neon bikini top or crop top, looking cool for an all-night rave. I was wearing it in the not so sunny UK, and added a simple white t-shirt top, grey espadrilles (both holiday buys from Menorca), and a necklace from River Island that echoed the brightness of the skirt.
New Look Inspire has some great skirts available at the moment, here are a few more that have caught my eye.
