Next – Desert Dream Styling Challenge

Next continue to tantalize us with their new season collections. The latest unveiling is the Desert Dream Collection. This is the softest of  palettes, blush, browns, corals and light pinks that look so pretty as we start to move towards autumn.  Soft wispy pleats, pink and charcoal skinny jeans, wool and faux fur promising a feminine yet edgy look for the transition season. The challenge is how would Fashion-Mommy style her pick of the new pieces.

Inspiration can come from many sources, and is always a personal choice. I spent my evening watching the Sex in the City movie, and one of my favourite scenes is the New Years Eve scene when Carrie races across the city to make sure Miranda does not see in the New Year by herself. Carrie is dressed in her pjs in pretty  pastel shades, but throws on a fur coat and glittery beanie hat, not to mention totally inappropriate boots. The look is unmistakably Carrie, quirky, original but always glamorous.

I wondered if this look could ever be translated into a real outfit that you could actually wear. But taking inspiration from Next’s desert styling challenge, I think I have put together an outfit with some essence of Carrie, but with total wearability. The basis of the outfit would be the gorgeously floaty coral tunic, which has a real romantic feel to it. I would team it with the roll-up skinny jeans in pink, to keep the soft flattering shades going.

To keep the Carrie theme, and add some furry glamour, I would add a cute faux fur gillet in winter white. This would add a little bit of extra warmth over the sheer tunic. Boots and a bag will also be essential, but flat heels will be far more practical than Carrie’s vertiginous boots. These suede boots will look fabulous worn over the pink jeans, whilst I think Carrie would love the fur tote in a New York Winter, but it would look equally as cool in a British Autumn.

The final touch for Carrie was that divine silver beanie hat. Get the look in this great silver sequin knit version from Next for an absolute steal at just £8. This will finish an outfit that has a touch of Carrie, but in a totally wearable style.
