Next Spring/Summer 2014
I was lucky enough to be invited to the Next Spring/Summer press preview last Thursday, and I can tell you, the collection left me seriously excited. It seems Next is having a stylish 1980s moment, and choosing all my favourite colours as a basis for the colour palette, with blue, grey and mustard all being used to excellent effect.
I loved the sophistication of the new collection. Biker style jackets in tweed and herringbone style prints, fit and flare skirts teamed with classic white shirts and blouses for a look that can easily transcend work and evening wear. Boxy style jackets are teamed with shorter length pencil shirts in a mismatch of prints, in a range of separates that will work with all the things you already have in your wardrobe.
As you would expect from Next, the accessories are pretty special, with lots of designer inspired handbags and shoes, include chain handled handbags that reminded me of a very famous French House of Couture. Again there are definite nods to the 1980s, with ankle straps and pointed toes on shoes and snake prints being a big feature.
I just loved so many pieces from the range, with a real French feel to it that speaks sophistication and elegance. Think Ines De La Fressange at the height of her 1980s supermodel stage as your muse, add a chain handled bag and a dash of snakeprint, and you will be all set to hit Spring in style.
