Preparing For Your Prom

It may seem a long time until the Summer, but time has a way of creeping up on you, and, before you know it, it will be May and Prom Season will be upon us. There is a lot to prepare before it gets to the special day, but the good thing is that January is actually a perfect time to start the preparation, as there are deals to be found, both online and in store, where you can make great savings on prom dresses, shoes and accessories.

If you are looking forward to your prom this Summer, or if you have a teenager who will be taking part in a prom, here are some things that you need to consider in order to make the night perfect.

Prom Dresses

There is so much choice and variation when it comes to finding the perfect prom dress. There are dedicated shops that specialise in prom dresses, but these can be expensive, and also often require you to book an appointment, something that you need to be aware of if you are working to a distinct time frame.

You also need to be aware that some shops have an exclusivity policy, and so will not sell an identical dress to two girls from the same school, this helps you to avoid an embarrassing red carpet faux pas, but can limit your choice if you leave it too late.

If you are on a budget, it is worth checking out online options. ASOS and Chi Chi Clothing have many dresses that would be totally suitable for prom wear in their outlets, and these can be a great way to find something beautiful within your budget . The same can be said for shoes – sparkly designs that are perfect for Christmas can also make a great match for your prom dress, and you should be able to pick them up pretty cheaply in January.

Prom Hair

Another good point about getting your dress early is that you then have time to trial prom hair styles to find a look that is glamorous and coherent. Look carefully at the style of your dress and then try different looks, from tumbling curls to sweeping updo’s, a chic 1920s style bob, to something short and funky. For your look to really wow on prom night, your look needs to work as a whole, it really would be a shame to spoil the look of an amazing gown with scruffy hair.

Your Mode of Transport

As important as what you wear for your prom, is how you get to your prom. In the past, it seemed to be limited to limousines, but these days the prom arrival is now all about thinking outside the box. A friend of mine recently hired a ‘Fast and Furious’ style car for her son to arrive at the prom in, whilst another hired a Hummer. My favourite idea was from a group who clubbed together to hire a Routemaster bus for the prom, and all arrived together. It was a lovely display of friendship and seemed to sum up what the prom was all about.

Do you have a prom to look forward to this Summer?
