Reviewed – Bare Minerals Original Foundation from Selfridges

Sometimes you are asked to a review a product that you are a little sceptical over. When I was asked by Selfridges if I would be interested in testing the Original Foundation from Bare Minerals, that is exactly how I felt. I know that Bare Minerals are a highly regarded brand, and that this particular product was award-winning, but I was still uneasy about how a foundation that came in powdery form could offer the coverage needed. I was also sceptical about how it would blend into the skin.

Well, I have to say that I have been totally converted by this product, and that from now on, this will be my foundation of choice. This is a brilliant product, one that is great value, easy to apply, and has real results.

The premise of this foundation is simple, Bare Minerals want you to be able to cover up those blemishes, acne scars, uneven skin tone and other problems that can affect the skin, but to do it with the (almost) no make up look. The Foundation has been formulated without any binders, fillers or preservatives, instead using the finest quality ingredients.

The sample I was sent came in a small pot with a gorgeous silver application brush. My first thought was that this wouldn’t be enough for one application, but the whole point of this is that you only need the tiniest amount. You dip the brush into the pot, but then swirl the brush into the lid until it disappears into the brush. You then tap away any excess (I tipped all of this back into the pot – waste not want not), and then apply this to the skin by buffing in a circular motion. This enables you to get the coverage needed, and to make it even.

I have to admit that sceptical me was shocked by how much I like this. For a start it is so light. I am often not a fan of foundations for everyday wear because they are just to heavy – not for nothing is it called ‘putting your face on’, but this formulation actually feels like your face is bare – I love this. It was really easy to apply and quick too, perfect for those who rush in the morning. I also loved how long the coverage lasted, this is make-up that lasts all day, and is the perfect base if you want to wear make-up that day, or provides a natural look if you are going make-up free, but just want your skin to look perfect and healthy.
