Reviewed – Primetime Ponte Skater Dress from Great Plains

Great Plains is another fashion brand I have rediscovered recently. The sister brand to French Connection, Great Plains was a brand I wore a lot during the years 2000-2007, but then I had Joe, gained weight that didn’t shift, and could no longer fit into the dresses. But since Joe started school I have been more active, enjoying long walks and swimming each week, and suddenly I have lost some of the stubborn baby weight that had taken up residence. And so, when I was asked if I would like to review a dress from Great Plains, I was able to say a resounding yes, because I knew the dress would actually fit. A great result!

The dress I chose is definitely pointing towards Autumn, both in terms of fabric, cut and colour. The Primetime Ponte Skater dress is in the fabulous ponte fabric that offers semi stretch and shape, making it ultra flattering (I think it actually helped pull my stomach in, as this is my problem area, I was super pleased with this.) The dress has a cute, flirty shape, but the dark, more sombre colours make this a far more grown up look than usual skater styles. The dress also has black paneling which gives it an illusion look.

DSCN8855I loved the way the dress had been styled on the Great Plains website, with thick opaque tights and black heels, but I am clinging onto Summer for just a while longer, so I went bare-legged and added a pair of vintage Bally heels in pewter, which I think lifted the dress for a more evening look. I also added a vintage necklace that I found in a charity shop for 59p!

I wore this dress to a special Chef’s table event at Birmingham’s Hotel La Tour, and I think it was just formal enough for the occasion, and a nice change from a little black dress. Despite being August, there was a definite chill in the night air, so I added a kimono jacket from F&F just to ward off the evening breeze.

I was really impressed with this dress, I love the fit and flare shape, and think the dress could be so versatile – add ballerina flats and a leather jacket for the weekend, heels and a blazer for the office, or a more dressy shoe for evening wear.

*I was sent a dress from Great Plains in return for an honest review, all views are my own.
