Reviewed – The Becky Dress from Studio 8

A new fashion collection was launched in the Summer that had all plus size fashionistas clapping their hands with glee. Studio 8 is derived from Phase Eight, one of the most stylish brands on the High Street (and certainly one of my favourites) and it offers the same high quality design, stunning prints and fabrics, but now in sizes that go up to a size 24. The first collection offers everything from smart work wear, casual weekend pieces, and stunning evening wear and is just full of beautiful, wearable clothes.

Studio 8 contacted me about reviewing the Becky dress. This is a beautiful piece, a slightly over the knee style, with a v neckline and soft digital floral print. It also comes in one of my favourite fabrics, the scuba style that seems to put everything in place and hold it there. Studio 8 describes the dress as:-

“…A modern way to wear florals. Colourful digital print flowers decorate this vibrant scuba dress, with a soft v-shaped neckline, wide pleats at the skirt and a concealed centre back zip. In a contemporary cut, with the hem designed to fall below the knee…”

I loved this dress on first view, the print is stunning – actually far more beautiful in the flesh than the picture suggests. The colours including pinks and blues suggest Monet art, and it is quite easy to team with a range of different colours. The fit is perfect – I wore a size 18 and can get this on without pulling down the zip (useful if there is no-one to do it back up again), whilst the fabric is not too heavy, even with the lining. The dress fits so beautifully – it nips in at the waist and then flares out retro 1950s style. You just feel so feminine wearing it.

I have already worn this dress twice for two special occasions. The first was when we were guests of the Blackpool Tower Circus in the Royal Box. It was a lovely night, but a little breezy on the sea front, so I added tights and Mary Jane style shoes that I think added to the vintage feel of the dress.

This weekend saw Style Birmingham Live, one of the biggest events on Birmingham’s fashion calender. I wore the dress again, but as it was a beautiful Autumn day, I opted for kitten heel sling backs in cobalt and a silver Joanna Hope bag from Marisota. The dress received lots of lovely comments and was really comfortable to wear due to the stretch of the fabric.

I know this dress will work straight into the festive season, I have already tried it with a black jacket as a cover-up for cooler nights, and started Stye Birmingham by adding a faded denim jacket which dressed the outfit down slightly.
