Reviewed – Woven Printed dress from Planet
I often wonder whether this blog should really be called ‘another day, another dress’, because despite the fact I do enjoy wearing casual clothes and jeans when shopping or having downtime, whenever I have an occasion of any sort, I dip into the wardrobe and look for one of my dresses. And I think this explains why I get so excited about reviewing dresses, especially when it is for a label I have never worn before. It must be how kids feel at Christmas, or in a toy shop…
My latest dress review concerns a label I do have in my wardrobe, but mainly through very good finds from charity shops and used dress agencies. Planet is what I consider to be a very grown up label, a label that dresses women. By this I mean it understands the sort of changes that happen to our bodies as we hit 40, the fact that we may like sleeves, or skirts that reach our knees. I know all this may make me sound a little frumpy, and I’m all for people dressing in what they want to wear. But me, I like to wear clothes that actually suit me (at least I hope they do…).
Which is why I was happy to choose a dress to review from Planet’s current range, and also explains why I chose the Woven Printed Dress. When I initially chose this dress I thought it was jersey, which would give me a little bit of leverage with sizing. In actual fact, it wasn’t jersey at all, but lined polyester, which meant the dress was a little more static and structured than I had thought it would be. Luckily, the dress fitted perfectly in size 18, and so my mistake about fabric wasn’t punished.
The woven printed dress has a very eye-catching print, with a mixture of red, white and black that makes it perfect for the transition from Winter to early spring. There is a delicate, side ruching detail that gives the dress a draped feel that once again is perfect for covering stomach bloating (something which I am prone to at the moment suffering from Colitis). The length sits just on the knees for me (I’m 5ft7in), which is the length I like, it may be lower or higher on you depending on your height. (I know I’m stating the obvious here.)
I think this dress has a really elegant feel, and would be perfect for smart workwear or for evening occasions – a family meal or a night at the theatre. It doesn’t really need much adornment due to the busy pattern, but I added a pearl beaded necklace from Primark to pick out the white accents in the dress. I also added my shoe-boots, although I would prefer this with heels I knew I was going to be doing some walking the day I wore this dress. (I was off to a nail event which you can read about here.)
The dress is now in the Spring Sale at Planet, and is more than half price – a real bargain buy to add to your wardrobe.
With thanks to Planet and 7 Things Media for the dress for review.
