Santa Arrives at House of Fraser, Birmingham
Every child loves a visit to Santa, and, if you are in Birmingham, the most beautiful and magical grotto of them all is the one that opened at House of Fraser on Thursday. The House of Fraser Grotto is this year working in association with the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, with all proceeds going directly to the hospital. With this in mind it was fitting that the grotto was officially opened by patients from the hospital in a lovely, moving ceremony.
The thing I love about the House of Fraser Grotto, apart from the wonderful charity element, is that it clearly has children in mind and totally understands them. It understands that kids are not always patient whilst waiting to see Santa, and so has an area with colouring in pictures where children can enter a competition, and there is also a TV screening seasonal favourites like The Polar Express and Frozen.
The Grotto itself is truly lovely, full of the magic of Christmas, with houses decorated as Santa’s post room and different children’s bedrooms. There is also a workshop and gorgeous animatronic reindeers that made event the adults in attendance smile. A sleigh, and penguins and acres of snow all add to the feel that you have entertained into a winter wonderland.
Santa himself is lovely, with lots of time for the children, and, due to his elf helpers, he greets children by name. It is not a rushed experience, children have time to chat to Santa, and there is also time for a photograph, which can then be purchased at the end of your Santa Experience.
If you are in Birmingham this year, and you have young children with you, I would definitely recommend taking the escalator up to the 5th floor of House of Fraser to enjoy a very special meeting with Santa, one that has its heart firmly in the right place.

Wonderful idea about keeping the kids amused while waiting for Santa – these little ‘attention to detail’ can really make or break a visit

How beautiful, the details is amazing. I’m loving all the white on the trees, I’ve always wanted to spray our tree with fake snow.

What a brilliant idea to have an area with activities and movies showing for the children while they are waiting to see Santa! It’s always so hard to keep them occupied and happy during long waits.
