Stylish Home Extensions

It is true what they say, your home is a reflection of you. A reflection of your tastes, your dislikes, your dreams and your accomplishments. No matter what stage of life you are in, your home is your personal space, where you are free to express yourself in complete safety. It is no surprise that decorating your home can seem slightly overwhelming when you find the time to invest in it because of this!

With any home extension project, the decorating can be harder than living through the construction process. With our many years of experience, we at Simply Extend are going to share our top tips, tricks and inspirational builds that we have accumulated over the years, to help you decorate your new space.

Before you begin decorating your kitchen extension, it is best to choose what ambience you want to create. Do you want to go for a modern sleek look? Or are you going to choose a rustic theme in your kitchen? If you do want to go modern, we recommend a strong colour palette, with a bold central colour which is complemented with softer tones. If you are going for rustic and natural, stick to soft tones of the primary colours, staying away from any contrasting or strong over-powering colours like black.

Next, you want to think about furnishings. Do you want to have funky LEDs lining the shelves? Or do you want touch lamps to bring light to your space? Maybe you want to create an industrial café theme, with metal stools around your kitchen island! Essentially, what we are trying to say, is that there are many different ways of achieving a stylish kitchen.

We love this project we undertook in London, with the exposed brick wall creating a really relaxed, natural feeling in this extension. Sometimes, less is more, and this extension definitely reflects that! The simple wooden table and benches add to this bohemian style, with lots of natural light coming in through the VELUX skylights. The finishing touch of adding the houseplants finishes the look nicely. It is important to note that for a finish of this standard, consistency across your decorating is key. This extension is furnished with thin metal furnishings, for example the stools and the wall storage, creating a cohesive look. This extension added £100k to the property price, being stylish and a great investment!

In comparison, this extension in South London uses bold dark colours to create a sleek finish. The dark colouring of the kitchen fittings contrasts against the pale pink of the seating, with the gold touches making the kitchen feel elegant and royal. By having lots of natural light flooding in through the skylights on this side return extension, the dark colours are kept bright and vibrant. If you do not have much natural light in your kitchen, you can add brightness from spotlights or droplights, which can direct light to important areas in the kitchen.

Whichever way you decide to style your kitchen, make sure you know what it is you are wanting from the space before taking any further steps. Once you have the foundations in place, the rest will fall into place.
