A few holiday Essentials

As we reach the end of February, our thoughts are finally turning to Summer days. Many of us have already booked our Summer holidays and are starting to list what we need. Holiday season is just around the corner, and with half term this week, people have already started jetting off to enjoy some much needed sunshine. But it is no secret that holidays, as well as being a time for fun, relaxation and excitement, are also a time that can prove to be very expensive. Travel money, holiday wardrobes, travel insurance, new luggage, all of these things can add up and make even the most budget of holidays rather more expensive than you may have budgeted for.

So this post is about planning ahead, not leaving all that shopping for holiday essentials until the last minute. A few bargain buys will update your holiday wardrobe without breaking the bank. Don’t forget to check out your local supermarket brands for bargains, Morrisons have an adult range as part of the Nutmeg range, whilst some branches of Poundland are stocking the budget brand Pep and Co in their stores. There are also a couple of ideas for must have items, investment pieces that you will be able to use year upon year.

Swimming Watches

If your holiday is one of water adventures, then it could be worth investing in a swimming watch. Swimming watches for women are stylish and durable, and are great if you want to indulge in scuba diving, swimming, water skiing, or any other kind of watery activity. These days a waterproof watch doesn’t have to be bulky or manly, it can actually have a sleek and stylish design.

A Maxi Dress

A maxi dress is perfect for evening drinks or daytime sightseeing. it can also double up as a pool coverup, or you could add a denim jacket and it will be great to travel home in. Choose a pretty pattern for extra style points.

A cool pair of espadrilles will work for holidays and festivals alike. Add in a metallic touch, and you have a shoe that is stylish and versatile. Try to choose a pair that will work with most of your outfits so you can cut down on the packing.

Beach Cover Up

A beach cover up can look so much  chicer than a sarong, and this black dress has an interesting back detail. This means that it would also work for drinks after dark, just add a pair of statement earrings for an evening look.

A Hat

Protect your head with the coolest cover up around – it has to be a Fedora. You could travel in this to help it keep its shape, or pack your undies into it to avoid it being flattened in the suitcase.

A versatile Bag

Boho prints are another holiday fave. I love the pink accents in this tote bag, it looks like it has come straight from Talitha Getty’s 1960s Marrakesh wardrobe. This sort of bag would work for the beach, or for sightseeing.

Halloween Fashion From New Look

In the car this morning, as I once again tried to avoid sleep walking through the school run, a song came on the radio that immediately made me smile. It was ‘The Monster Mash’ by Bobby-Boris Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers, a classic Halloween song that was a hit in both the 1960s and 1970s and has been played at a million Halloween parties every year since. It reminded me that Halloween is less than two weeks away, and that I had yet to have looked at the Halloween fashion which has sort of been a tradition since I started this blog. So here it is.

This year I decided to have a look at the Halloween range from High Street fave New Look. who I genuinely think have played a blinder this year, with a range that covers everything from casual t-shirts to beautiful dresses and skirts that could be worn for Halloween, and will then be dressy enough to be worn through the festive season that follows.

New Look has created a collection that allows you to add a little bit of Halloween to your wardrobe without a huge expense. There are cute pumpkin earrings that cost just £1.99, a fabulously creepy spider choker for less than a fiver, and a great range of spooky t-shirts that cost less than £10, which I think is a great bargain.

I have highlighted some of my fave pieces below.

Will you be dressing up this Halloween?

Boohoo launch Boohoo Kids

Boohoo have long been known for their fashion forward, but affordable looks, and now, fresh from adding menswear and Boohoo Curve to their ranges, they have added a really fabulous children’s clothing selection.  The collection is for both girls and boys, and ranges from age 4-12. I have recently been sent some pieces for Joe to wear and review, and I have to say that the quality is excellent, the styles are cool for fashion-forward youngsters, and the prices are what you have come to expect from Boohoo.

Joe is a typical 7 year old who frankly doesn’t want to wear anything that isn’t sportswear or have a football team emblazoned on it. So the first plus point is that he actually liked the pieces I chose from Boohoo, they appealed to his cool quota and he was really happy to wear them. (Breathes a sigh of relief.) I think part of the reason he liked the pieces is that they are not babyish, we are not talking cartoon characters or dinosaurs here, but cool prints and patterns, and designs that are similar to what are appearing in menswear collections.

Joe already has clear ideas when it comes to his style, and the only jeans he likes are of the skinny variety. The Boys grey skinny jeans have a 1980s feel and contain stretch for extra comfort. Joe has really long legs and so we chose aged 9 which were only in need of a small turn up, and fitted perfectly on the waist.

We teamed the jeans with a polo top (now out of stock but you can find a good range of polo tops on the site) and a really lovely ‘Boys Smart Bomber Jacket’ which is great for wearing for special occasions, or a days when a warmer coat is not needed. This jacket comes in charcoal, as well as the classic black that we opted for.  This jacket is a great fix for those who love their sportswear has it has a soft, bomber jacket style.

Boohoo is certainly worth a look if you are on the hunt for somewhere different when it comes to children’s clothing. Currently you can get £1 next day delivery which is another bonus.

Boohoo – so good it gets Joe dabbing!
