The Perfect Grey Jumper From Cho Fashion And Lifestyle

Once upon a time, my choice of basic and classic clothing was always black. But in recent times, I have developed a love for grey, as a basic, as a neutral and as a stylish classic. Grey jumpers, worn with jeans or a black leather pencil skirt, have become almost a uniform of choice for me, something that I don’t have to think about, and yet know it will look good.

CHO Fashion & Lifestyle is an award-winning, independent designer clothing retailer with a passion for beautiful brands and professional service. It stocks great ranges from the likes of Joules, White Stuff, Hunter Boots, Barbour and many more. They also stock Great Plains, which, in its current range has what could be the perfect grey jumper.

The Great Plains Cashmere boat neck woman’s jumper is a loose fitting, slouchy style sweater that is just perfect to wear with jeans. It is a soft and cosy cashmere blend that makes it very comfortable to wear for things like the football, the school run or to do a bit of shopping, but it can also be dressed up with the addition of a scarf or a statement necklace.

The jumper has a slight boxy shape due to the boat neck and loose fit – think knitted sweatshirt. I chose this in size large as I wanted a casual unfitted look, but if you wanted it to look more fitted, I would suggest you size down as the proportions are generous. The thin knit and shape would make this great for layering over a shirt, and the slight dip to the hemline at the back is a brilliant feature for those who want to cover their bottom. It is shorter at the front, so this could also be layered over a basic top with the underlayer showing as a feature.

This is a jumper that you will be able to wear all year, and wear for years to come.

Preparing for the Chill with Esprit

January. I have to be honest, it’s my least favourite month of the year. The one that replaces the Christmas glow, glitter and glamour with dark, cold weather and a decidedly chilly air. This month is proving to be the norm rather than the exception. By the end of the week we could be looking at sleet and snow across most of the UK, and those sparkly days of December seem an awful long way away. It’s time to dig out those Winter Woollies.

The thing about dressing when the weather turns bad is that style often goes out of the window. It’s all about those chunky layers, puffa style coats, Wellington boots, and basically dressing like Scott of Antarctica getting ready to leave the tent. But it doesn’t have to be like that. We can maintain our style whilst keeping warm and snug, and the current collection from Esprit certainly proves that.

Esprit have been applying a few of their own rules to Winter dressing that ensure that your look could take you just about anywhere in style. If you follow these rules, you can be sure of a look that is both sartorially acceptable and warm. Totally win/win.

  1. If you have to wear a cardigan, take your tips from Chanel.

Chanel showed that wrapping up and adding layers could be the height of elegance. Esprit have added Chanel style cardigans and jackets to their collection, so all you need to do is add a string of pearls for your own iconic look.

2. If you are wearing a jumper, take your tips from Jane Birkin

A jumper and skinny jeans is a no brainer, but you can gain extra style points by taking your tips from Jane Birken and her love of Breton Style (think also Alexa Chung and Kate Moss). A stripe is a classic and also works well with a denim skirt or Matelot style with wide legged trousers.

3. Add shine to your accessories.

When the weather is cold, you may reach for a scarf or a hat. Why not make these the perfect way to add some sparkle to your look?

Fashion-Mommy reviews: A Fair Isle Cardigan from Woolovers

When it comes to clothing, I love style classics. Pieces like the little black dress, a beige trench coat, wide leg trousers and pure indigo jeans are all pieces that can be worn time and time again, always in style by virtue of not being in fashion. And another item that can be added to the mix is the Fair Isle knit, whether it be a cardigan or jumper.

Fair Isle knits are a traditional craft that has been around for hundreds of years, with the knits being used as currency when trading with passing ships. In recent years, the traditional designs have taken on a fashionable edge, notoriously when they became the knitwear of choice for Sarah Lund in ‘The Killing’. One of my favourite fashion films, ‘The Edge of Love’ was another showcase for the Fair Isle style, showing just how great it looks teamed with retro tea dresses. Celebrities love a little bit of the knit too, with Victoria Beckham, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez just some of the ladies who have succumbed to the pretty pattern.

Knitwear experts Woolovers have an amazing collection of knitwear that incorporates Cashmere, Merino Wool and Lambswool designs. The company asked if I would like to choose something from their current range to review, and I decided that the perfect design for wearing right now, that would also be a transitional piece come Spring, was the Lambswool Fair Isle cardigan. This is a knit that comes in a range of really beautiful colour options, including red and grey, but I chose the classic navy option.

This cardigan is a great mixture of modern styling and Fair Isle nostalgia. The boxy shape makes this great for casual wear, like teamed with jeans in the photograph above, but it can also be worn over a dress or, as I styled it, teamed with a skirt for a more formal look. The knit has a jacket styled shape, which makes this a great choice in Spring when it can be worn instead of a coat or jacket. It is 100% Lambswool so feels very warm and substantial when you are wearing it, even in our current cold weather.

DSCN1307[1]I styled my cardigan with a tulip style skirt from Betty Jackson at Debenhams, and vintage style t-bar Mary Janes from Clarks in navy. With navy tights, this picked up the navy of the cardigan. I added a set of 1930s original pearls to play up the nostalgia element of Fair Isle knits, and was really pleased with the look.

I am wearing this in a size large, which was plenty big enough for me (size 16-18) and meant I could wear this with all the buttons fastened without any puckering. I turned the waistband under slightly to make it sit on the band of the skirt, but would wear this loose and open with jeans.

You can currently get up to 50% off sale at Woolovers, and there are also deals offering two knits for £55, so now is a good time to check out the range for yourself.

*I was sent this cardigan in return for an honest review.
